After 4 yrs of inactive reserves, he has been called to duty for the army national guard. He has to do basic training again for 3 months. What can he take with him? And what can he take once he is shipped over seas?

I am not familiar w/military jargon. So sorry if I confused guard and reserves. He has to report to Jackson for 3 months, then goes to Leavenworth, where he will ship out. I wanted to be prepared with stuff for him. Not an impossible question.

Have him talk to his First Sergeant (1SG). He will take care of him. But its good that you are watching out for him. Make up a list together of all the questions you have and just ask the 1SG if/when he will have time to go through it all with him. But he really doesnt need to take much with him to basic. I suggest a bathroom kit, 3 days of civilian clothes and a good attitude.

If he was in the reserve, then he's already been to basic and should know what he can bring if he has to go back. Also this question doesn't make a whole lot of sense since you cant be called from the reserves to the national guard.

Basic training for new soldiers is only 9 weeks.

The refresher course for IRR (Inactive Ready Reserve) recalls is 1 or 2 weeks.

If you are called to duty for IRR, you are part of the Army Reserve not National Guard.

Your question is not even possible.

Not a whole lot.

Personal items are strictly limited during basic training, and if he is shipped to the SandBox, I don't believe he will be able to carry much more than what will fit in a duffle bag and a foot locker.

As another person said, he should consult a superior. His company First Sergeant, or the company's Sergeant Major would be the best people to ask.

All your sweetheart needs to take is a toothbrush a travel size tooth paste and a picture of you in that sheer nightie (you know the one) wallet size only. Prescription glasses if he wears contacts, he won't have time none of that contact crap. Everything else is given to you. If you don't have it, it's cause you don't need it. If he takes an ipod he might as well throw it out the bus window.

NOTHING! Just his body and the clothes he is wearing. Anything he takes will be confiscated and held segregated. He will get the stuff back, AFTER training, but it could suffer some damage. Don't send anything with him, he will be issued EVERYTHING he will be allowed to have. Seriously, he will be fine, so don't worry about his needs.

you will need to search their website. When my son was thinking of enlisting, (the marines) they had a point by point of what would be allowed to bring and what was not allowed. My son wears boxers, they only allow tidy whities, etc. Good luck to you and God Bless your boyfriend.
