I went through Army BASIC training in Fort Knox, Kentucky. You get up at 5am, get dressed and go to Physical Training called "PT" for about an hour (includes situps, pushups, running, etc.) then you go to breakfast chow and eat, after that you go back to barracks and get in your BDU's and head out for whatever training session they have planned for the day. Get back to barracks around 7:30-8pm and you have 1 hour personal time where you write notes and take your shower and lights out at 9pm. Then all night the people in your platoon take turns doing night guard watch and fire watch for 1 hour shifts until 5am when the ones doing those shifts wakes everyone up. Then it starts all over again.

Some extra notes, you won't get to call home very often, you will get about 10 min. on the phone every few weeks and you will probably get very homesick. Letters are nice but the sound of a loved ones voice is a millions times better. When you go to the rifle ranges; listen! The drill sgts. are not joking around and if you walk around pointing your M16 in the wrong direction things will not be pretty for you. On your off time at the barracks which you will get every once and a while during the day, do situps and pushups, practice whenever you get the chance because it will only help you in the long run, don't sit around like the rest of the fools thinking they have a day off. Good Luck!

Everyone has put some good points and truth in what they have said. It does depend on where you go. If you dont prep yourself you will have a hard time both physically and mentally. You have to be committeed to doing if it is what you want. I never saw myself joining but I did and I must say that I plan to make a career out of it. Basic is going to suck, AIT is better and once all your training is over its becomes a regular but more demanding job. You might get a desk job, or whatever fits you. But I say to keep it short if you going to do it. Plan a few months out to get all your affairs at home taken care of. Keep phones cards during basic (sorry no cellphones allowed). Save your money. Save your money. Save your money. The money is nice that you get starting off fresh, but once you see you get a steayd check a lot of soldiers lose their mind. Have fun. Work hard play hard. And you will get out of it what you put into it.

what the guy above me said about how it is ahole lot harder for the Chinese is completely true, there is a part in there training where they run and march up the mountains for so long that there feet are soaked with blood after that, its harder for the guys in the back because the ground becomes slippery from all of the blood,- you dont hear about that with the American army do you, think about if they can go through that then you can go through the
BASIC training the army will put you through.

If you have some military background it is hard, but if none, depending on where and when, it can be pure hell. And the you get to look forward to Advanced Infantry Training if not selected for another school!

They love to march in the sand in 100 degree weather with full packs!

VERY HARD. But you know i do think it all depends where you go. I've known different ppl who went to of course different bases, and out of all of them so far I've heard that Ft. Knox is one of the hardest. There is a reason why they call it Hard Knox, but yet all of the soldiers I've talked to are now glad that they went there.

It can be difficult if you want it to be, but one thing you have to remember, is that it is not made to be impossible. SO when you feel like quiting, you have to remember all the douchebags who have completed it before you. You are definitly better than them and can complete anything! Good luck!
