I am out of ideas for this man of mine. He is a police officer and has every sort of tactical thing you can imagine. I would have our kids make him a special something but they are only 3years old and 11 months. Flowers arent his style, and he already has shavers and gadgets for the computer and camera. I've also looked at flashlights, duty gear, and boots. I'm tellin you the man has everything. Any suggestions?

Just a suggestion, have that smith checked out. I read a bulletin that that model could have problems by cracking at the back. It can only be seen by taking the gun apart. Tell him to have his dept range officers check it. If it is damaged smith will pay for repair, shipping etc. As far as the gift, you don't need to limit it to police stuff, cops have all sorts of extra crap and there is probably nothing he needs. Maybe go in another direction. Good luck.

Contact my good friend Rob Leahy at Simply Rugged Holsters (http://www.simplyrugged.com/). Tell him that Doc Hudson recommended him and tell him what gun your husband carries for off duty. Rob makes some superb concealment and sporting holsters, and his prices are quite reasonable.

If time and price rule out a holster from Simply Rugged, how about some new cologne, a new pair of moccasins or slippers to wear at home, or perhaps a new barbecue grill. If he is a reloader, perhaps a new piece of reloading equipment he has been wanting, or a gift certificate to a sporting goods store. If you want it to be something more personal, how about hiring a baby sitter, renting a hotel room, and take him out for a romantic evening. Along the same line, you can make up a coupon book redeemable for things like a sensual massage, a private strip tease, or various special sexual favors, and be sure to include at least one "Get Out of Trouble with no Questions Asked" coupon.

FWIW, it sounds like your husband is a lucky man, two children and a wife who cares.

All the Best,
Doc Hudson

Here's something creative that will be appreciated and you will have fun doing:

Make up a crossword puzzle and have all the hints be personal inside moments and jokes that only you two would know about the kids. Put it on a poster board and add some clipart and some pictures to it!

The crossword puzzle could be time consuming and a bit frustrating ... you could do the same idea with a WORDSEARCH or WORDFIND puzzle.

Put your computer skills to work! Use Excel, get clipart from Yahoo Images Search, copy them, and reformat them, use a gluestick to put on posterboard.

Use graph paper, and pictures from magazines if you are not as good on the computer, and it will give it a homemade feeling.

Even one of those flash lights that doesn't use batteries? The ones that you shake up and can leave in your car for months?

Wow...you could get him a special shirt made. Something like a family inside joke on it. What about movies? Or if he has an iPod/Mp3 player you could get him a card that money on it so he can download some new songs for it.

Why don't you get tickets to some kind of event he wanted to see? Or maybe a gift card to his favorite store? Or why don't you ask him what he wants? A grill, fishing stuff. Does he like any sports teams? How about wake him up on Father's day with his favorite breakfast and then ask him what he wants to do?

Put together an engraved plaque of some sort, I'm sure there are places you can call to have it done.

Have your kids write something short and sweet then add your part.. He's a hero in more ways than one, and to many people. Get him something that will remind him of that :) Kind of like the best dad award, husband, and hero award all in one.

I'll provide you with some links that have examples.

Does he like chocolate? There are some really easy and delicious chocolate candy recipes that you could choose from and the 3 year old could even help. You may even want to consider using chocolate candy molds in a particular shape that suits his interests. There is a great selection of ideas at http://www.chocolate-candy-mall.com/homemade-chocolate-candy-recipes.html
I live too far away from my dear old dad to make him some chocolate, but I am ordering some to be delivered. Yummm.

Personally I'd look into getting him a new vest if he doesn't already have a great one. Most Police Depts supply vests but they're not very good, I even know of some departments that make the officer buy their own vests. To me that's just wrong, really wrong.

I suspect he could use a nice, good quality holster for that new .500

I think my wife was in your position last year. She just took me out for dinner at my favorite steak house. I appreciated the night out with the wife more than a new gadget.

What about a picture of you and your children for his locker or his hat? Many of the officers that I know will keep a photo of their family in the band of their hat. I couldn't think of a more "Father's Day" appropriate gift.

Maybe you're looking in the wrong direction. It's Fathers day, not Police Officers day. Let him know how much you appreciate him.
