First of all, the word is "Strenuous". I could give you the dictionary meaning but I'll presume you've done that and couldn't quite grasp it. An act is said to be strenuous if it takes effort and a toll on you, either physically or mentally. For example, pulling a cart filled with bricks is strenuous. Anything which causes some strain to you, again physically or mentally is said to be "strenuous". Some more examples:

I find the summer is quite strenuous due to the exams I have to take up during that time.

Playing on the field on the day is strenuous.

What causes me some strain is definitely strenuous.

"Strenuously" is used to describe another action that is strenuous.

Here's how you can use it:

The poor old man pulled the cart which seemed strenuously taxing on his frail body.

These exams that come again and again seem strenuously sadistic on the students!

It means it was hard to do physically, but it was done. Like lifting a certain weight-"the athlete streneously lifted the 500 lb weight for the competition". It is a word that can be used, depending on the line of work you are in, etc.
