Ignorance is bliss. Creationism is just another way to try to keep the faithful in line. As one of the answers has already shown, there is little understanding of evolution. To say that there would be other primates continuing to evolve into us is ridiculous, and there is quite a bit of support for species evolving into different species. You just have to study evolution to realize this. Since we only have a common ancestor, apes today could not evolve into us. However, they are evolving, just as we are. We have only been around for a drop in the bucket of time, and we have already found evidence that we have changed from our ancestors in both height and skeletal structure. That 68% is what holds our society from becoming great, and they are the major source of why we are now so hated throughout the world. Ignorant people thinking they are intelligent enough to tell the world what to do.

I imagine it has a lot to do with how people are brought up. You tend to believe more strongly the idea that is first presented to you, especially if it was taught to you by your parents. As a child, they are your best source of information for your own safety and survival, which translates into believing in what they tell you. If you grow up being taught creationism, it will be harder to change your mind later because you'll have to re-wire other things as well. So, our parents taught us, whose parents taught them, all the way back the few thousand years the idea's been around. I don't know why we can't believe in both...if you look at Genesis and don't take it literally, (honestly, how could there be days before there was a planet to circle a sun?), it kind of follows the same order that evolution does. Just think of day as an unspecified amount of time.

Those statements are about as fair to creation as me asking "why are apes still around if we evolved from them?" .
Ok, I just watched that video. I cannot believe you would use that as evidence for anything. It's the old argument that Christians hate science. No, we just think evolution is bad science. Sorry, I'm keeping you from watching your youtube propaganda videos. Carry on.
Everyone on here seems to think that that cartoon is representative of the Creationists mentality.(Or at least is not too far off base) I find that very laughable. If you can't see the logical fallacies and ad hominem attacks in that(see Martin for an example), you probably should be staying out of any sort of real debate. I'm done now.
I was not really asking that question. I was saying that your earlier statements are very uninformed as to the real arguments and are moot, just as the apes question is also very easily answered by you. Your "question"
"How could you ignore all the fossils that have been found which show that we evolved from apes?" is extremely unstable. Here is an article that illustrates my point.
http://www7.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/0611/feature6/index.html You should look at the cover photo. They recreate its skull and find out it looks just like a chimp, so they give it less hair. There was also a chart in the real magazine article where they showed brain capacity of humans and chimps. I forget exact numbers it is something like a child has 1000cc's of brain volume and a chimp has 350cc's. Guess how much this "human ancestor" had. They wrote "350??" Great example of an intermediate. Why the argument doesn't end right there beats me. Also about the less hair on the chimp thing, what makes artists draw "cavemen" naked and hairy and ape like? Do we have a frozen specimen that looks like the geico commercial guy? They are going on the assumption that we in fact did evolve from a common ancestor 5 or 7 million years ago. But do they really know? Have you ever seen how much of a skull they usually recover? A jaw bone, maybe a piece of frontal bone of the skull. Not too much more. The rest is filled in. There is so much guess work and filling in with other things too. I am going to bed now, but let me reply to one more thing you mentioned. You say and I quote, " creation was what people came up with to explain what they could not just like they said that the Earth is the center of the universe." You show me in the Bible where it says the earth is the center of the universe. When you are done with that, you can also show me where it says the moon is made out of cheese. It never says those things. You can't bring down the truth by putting it next to a lie.
One more thing. What's the primary difference between a story about being created from dust or evolving from dust? A creator maybe..? Are you opposed to the idea of a creator?
If you ever hear of dust forming life by itself, you will have a point. Simply leaving out God, does not make it more scientific. In fact, it makes it impossible.

Many people are comfortable believing the stories they've been told. For them, it is real. Just as for others, something completely different is real. The people that believe in Creationism have their own proof to back up their belief, just as the Evolutionists have their proof. Unfortunately, the two groups will never meet in the middle. Science can not proove so many many things, like how old the universe is etc, so that leaves room for others to interpret these unknowns.

Sam, chill...75 percent of Americans are Christian...of that 75 percent, 63 percent do not believe in a rapture scenario (like Left Behind) and 60 percent believe in evolution and that it does not conflict with their beliefs. I am one of them.
I spend more time explaining this to Christians than anyone else. My dad gave me a great way of putting it...why would God create people who would not evolve or adapt to their environment. If he had, no one would have survived.

73.7% of percentages are made up. A recent pole on ABC showed 60% of Americans believed in God. % this, % that. Just as much evidence you can show me of evolution being truth, I can show you just as much evidence of God. You won't believe my evidence, I still don't believe yours. There's holes here, there's holes there.
Did I mention that 89.3% of percentages are made up? Good luck and God bless.
I like what the women above me says, "Since we only have a common ancestor, apes today could not evolve into us." Is that the same as the atheist argument regarding Christians hiding behind God works mysteriously?

An explanation...
A man went to a barbershop to have
his hair cut and his beard trimmed.
As the barber began to work,
they began to have a good conversation.
They talked about so many things
and various subjects.
When they eventually touched on
the subject of God, the barber said:
"I don ' t believe that God exists."
"Why do you say that?"
asked the customer.
"Well, you just have to go out in
the street to realize that God
doesn't exist. Tell me, if God exists,
would there be so many sick people?
Would there be abandoned children?
If God existed, there would be neither
suffering nor pain.
I can't imagine loving a God who
would allow all of these things."
The customer thought for a moment,
but didn't respond because he didn't
want to start an argument.
The barber finished his job and the customer
left the shop.
Just after he left the barbershop,
he saw a man in the street with long,
stringy, dirty hair and an untrimmed
beard.
He looked dirty and unkept.
The customer turned back and entered
the barber shop again and he said
to the barber:
"You know what? Barbers do not exist."
"How can you say that?"
asked the surprised barber.
"I am here, and I am a barber.
And I just worked on you!"
"No!" the customer exclaimed.
"Barbers don ' t exist because
if they did, there would be no
people with dirty long hair
and untrimmed beards,
like that man outside."
"Ah, but barbers DO exist!
What happens is, people
do not come to me."
"Exactly!"-
affirmed the customer.
"That ' s the point!
God, too, DOES exist!
What happens, is, people
don ' t go to Him
and do not look for Him.
That ' s why there ' s so much pain
and suffering in the world."

I do not dispute that there is evolution within a species. I do dispute that there is any scientific data supporting one species evolving into a totally different species altogether, such as the ape into man. We would still be seeing the evidence to this day as apes would still be evolving into men, or better yet, we would be evolving into yet another species.

They believe in Creation because it's what their religion tells them is the only answer. They ignore the facts staring them in the face because they can't see past the words from a literary work which have been shoved down their throats their entire lives.

A lot of people don't understand how science works, and have been lied to about what evolution means. I've never met a creationist who could actually define evolution, because it's really hard to argue with 'change in allele frequencies over time' when it's clearly observable.
