Like is it pronounced "ray" or "rate"?

Only one of the t's is silent, it's not ray.

Re: Raitt - The last name is Scottish. Its original Gaelic form is rath (pronounced rah) meaning "ring-fort." However, the anglicized form of the name is pronounced like the English word "rate."

English is usually terrible at pronouncing foreign names. When I had the Spanish language television channel Univision, I was always amazed at how the Spanish speaking announcers would pronounce Gaelic Mc and Mac- names closer to the way a Scot or an Irishman would pronounce them than most English speakers do even though the English live just a foot fall away from them.
