I'm 14 and want to get a dog. I need a small to medium breed that doesnt shed much and doesn't need too much excersize. Any suggestions?

We just got a toy poodle - he will get about 8 pounds, never sheds and gets all the exercise he needs in the house. There are some really cool new breeds out there - schnoodles (schnauzer - poodle mix), morkies (maltese - yorkie mix), poochi (poodle - chihuahua mix), cockapoo (cocker spaniel - poodle mix). Do your research and you will find the right fit for you! Good Luck!

well have you ever had a dog before? what is your living situation thinking currently and a couple years down the road? will your parents assume responsibitlies of the dog when you are off to college?

now after that and you still want a dog make sure you have time for a dog considering all dogs need exercise time and care

for some breed recomondations I would suggest going here http://animal.discovery.com/breedselector/dogselector.do

and may i also suggest your local shelter/humane society often with an adult dog you skip having to house train and know what you are getting with size and temperment

after that think about the financial obligation if the dog gets sick will your parents be willing to cover vet bills since all dogs need shots

good luck! dogs truly are a pleasure

Poodles and many terriers are low shedding....HOWEVER they are usually HIGH energy.

You may consider a beagle or smaller size terrier such as a West Highland White Terrier, Miniture Poodle. These dogs will still need exercise, but because of their smaller size they will be "worked' more in a shorter distance then a larger dog would. A Pug might also be an option for you.

Stay away from Rat & Jack Russel Terriers...VERY VERY VERY high energy.

definetley get a MINIATURE SCHAUZER

they are perfect for your lifestyle.
they are suited 2 apartment life and do okay without a garden.
all they need is 1 brisk walk a day, and u can't get much less than that!
they shed little to no hair and are gorgeous faithful dogs. I met a mum with a litter of puppies (sadly not for sale) and they were adorable and soo friendly!

here are some pics:

thats an adult dog

that was a puppy

and thats a litter

they usually come in salt and pepper colour, but i think blacks and whites are avadaible sometimes...

well a poople tends to be very energetic but if u get a bichon frise , even though they look alike the are very different. a bichon frise can be a great dog beacause its not a barker is GREAT with strangers easy to train and doesnt shed a lot. like any dog it does need exersice and if u dont think u can provide that maybe u should think of getting a cat!!

I have 2 cavachons (mixed breed) a cross between bichon freese and King Charles cavalier spaniel. One is 14 pounds and the other is 20 pounds. They have been bred to not shed, and are both adorable and love people.

check out petfinder.com. there are so many dogs that need good homes. dont worry about having the puppy and what breed is going to suit you. think about what you can do for the dog. spend some time researching, look at all the dogs that need homes, then adopt one and give it a loving home.

A mini schnauzer would be the perfect dog for you! They are incredibly sweet dogs that come in grey, black, and white and they do not shed at all. We've always had them in the family and they are wonderful!
