How Is saying "heck" disrespectful? From what I understand, If I said "what the bloody hell does such and such mean?", that would be disrespectful! I said I envy the British and I do, calm down!

14 1bs make a stone, a bacon butty is delicious, a warm bacon sandwich, usually in a tea cake (which you also won't have heard of) a grass verge is the grass area alongside the road...we do have refrigerators, agreed not as big as in the USA be we don't fill them with quite as many ready meals as you do, or gallons of soda (pop)
Why do Americans never say Three thousand five hundred but Thirty five hundred? Oh and by the way a fortnight is 14 days....here endeth the lesson...

A stone is 14 pounds. A grass verge is a piece of lawn that runs along a paved surface. A bacon butty is a sandwich with grilled or fried slices of back or streaky bacon. We do have refrigerators, but we call them fridges. We also have take holidays not vacations.

In Ireland we have hot presses instead of airing cupboards, stick paper onto a notice board with a thumbtacks rather than drawing pins and if something is urgent we say we will 'do it now in a minute'

There are 14 pounds to a stone, there are 8 stones to one hundredweight and 20 hundredweights to a ton. These are imperial weights not to be confused to metric weights. There are 12 inches to a foot 3 feet to a yard 1760 yards to mile imperial distances. There are 20 fluid onces to a pint 2 pints to a quart and 4 quarts or eight pints to a gallon. This is not to be confused with an american gallon which is equivelent to about 6 pints. These measurements are all still in use although they are trying to get us to use metric. Pounds weight are not to be confused with pounds sterling, where there are a basic 100 pence to the pound, and roughly 2 dollars to the pound sterling. There are some old fashioned measurements still in use A chain which is 22 yards. There a firkin equivelant to eight gallons used in the brewing trade all very interesting. if you log on to ask.co.uk and ask the question the answers are there as well. We dont have big american style refrigerators because theres no need for them, although you can buy them if you want them.

A "stone" is 14 lbs according to the avoirdupois measuring system that is used in the UK.
A "verge" is a bank or a knoll, man made I would think.
and the last one is a butty. You can put anything in a butty, chips,(french fries) egg, sausage, jam whatever. Its slang for sandwich.

A stone is 14 pounds. Please don't say, What the heck is .......... if, as you say, you love the British. It's not very nice. I think you'll find that we were using stones when you didn't exist.

And while we're on this comparison jag, why don't you Americans use a proper gallon? Don't you know that a long time ago somebody short changed you?
And we spell "fridge" and "refrigerator"
differently because we do.
