I've been in that position and, Yes, I was willing By God's grace, it never came to that point However, sometimes giving up your life is not giving up on living It may be giving up the way of life you now have for someone else

Yes definitely. Numbers wouldn't matter. If I had a life I'd give it up for one stranger. I'd even go for a horrible death. Let's think....Yes I'd even die from that terrible Roman crucifixicion for one stranger. But didn't Jesus do that? - no he didn't come to think of it because as God he would know every single person intimately and would not be a stranger at all. But I'd still go for that even though I would be in a worse position that an all knowng god. Because love is the word and you have to make sacrifices.

Actually, no. I know this sounds selfish but it's honest. Even a child or my wife I'd really only go to save them if I was pretty sure I'd be able to save them and get us both to safety. Martyrdom is a rational act and I'm just not that smart. I also don't think most other people are though they will claim they would do it.

And don't get me wrong...I see the kid in front of the bus, I'll probably dive for it, but that's not rational because there's no time to think - and hence anything I speculate I would do is to be taken with a large grain of salt.

I would give my life for my son. Otherwise, no-why would I? I don't believe in war. I would take a calculated risk, and have, to help others.

For my family. I assume you are talking about dying, like in the war..
That is what the boys in Iraq are doing for me as they don't know me personally..

Our soldiers are doing this daily. Yes, I would do so if it was the right thing to do. In a heartbeat.
