Acne is caused because of genetics and hormones. If your skin does not get rid of dead skin and oils, it blocks your pores. You can use a homemade exfoliant to rub the dead skin off your face. You can use something gentle such as sugar, or anything smooth and small. The idea is to not hurt your skin while you keep it cleaned. Sun may seem like it's helping, but eventually it makes it worse. There are a lot of folk tales about acne, but ultimately you probably will need to use some type of medication to help keep acne away. Do some research about the causes, and determine for yourself if you need to seek a dermatologist's help or not. I use Proactiv now and could not be happier.

NATURAL ACNE PROTOCOL
1/ Never, ever touch your face.
2/ Use 3 facecloths to wash your face, one to soap on, one to soap off with very hot water, one to rinse off with ice cold water, in that order, once a day.
3/ If you are under 18 take 5,000 IU of vitamin A once a day with a full meal
4/ If you are over 18 take 5,000 IU of vitamin A twice a day with a full meal.
Do not get pregnant while taking vitamin A. Do not take any more, like Accutane, it will stop you growing.
5/ Never, ever. pick, squeeze or pop your spot. Read number 1 again.
6/ Do this for 90 days.
7/ Invest in a brand new pillow and 2 new or more pillow cases to double bag' your pillow. HOT wash every couple of days.

A bit of advice given to me as a teenager, a bit of science as I am studying allergic reactions and vitamin A is a part of that. A bit of research: I sat in a lecture at the back and watched the acne prone pick at their faces, those with the worse acne touched their faces 32 times in an hour, the clearest complexions didn't touch their faces even once. I have circumstantial evidence that acne is the result of dermatophyte transfer from hands to face...where it does not get washed off and is well fed by hormones, sweat a
nd oil...just a hypothesis... But it would explain why vitamin A is so effective as vitamin causes skin to remove dermatophytes.
The secret is never to touch the spots
Tips on how to treat acne and achieve perfect clear skin in as little as 7 days?

Put toothpaste on your pimple before you go to bed, should help reduce swelling overnight. Make sure it is the paste not the gel. One of the most popular acne home remedies
Wash your face twice a day in warm salty water. This should leave your face oil free without aggravating the acne
Extract juice of one lemon and mix with equal quantity of rose water. Apply this mixture on the face and let it stay for about half an hour. Wash the face with fresh water. About 15 days application helps cure acne, pimples and reduces blemishes and scars
Home face wash for acne: Mix together 1 or 2mls each of the following: witch hazel, tea-tree and sweet fennel essential oils, adding essential oil of geranium for women and essential oil of rosewood for men. Mix with 300mls of water. Shake before use, as the oils will float on top of the water during storage. Dab affected areas with cotton wool two or three times a day. The oils will clean and unclog giving antibiotic-like protection to the skin.

The best thing you can do is pay a visit to the dermatologist. They are the experts. The people visiting Yahoo! Answers really are not. Different things work for different people, depending on who you are, what your skin is like, and what kind of acne you have. So no one here can really provide a good diagnosis or cure. Go to a dermatologist. You'll be glad you did. Good luck!

Steaming your face. Carefully heat up some water until it boils. Turn off the stove and put a towel over the pot. Put your face near the towel and the steam should slowly drift into your face heating it. When finished, wash your face with cold water.
Good Luck.
BTW avoid soaps on infected areas.

I found that mixing salt and water just helps with a quick washing, but I'm not sure how well this works for every night, I"d google it or something.

Mix a little bit of milk with salt to create a paste and apply to area, works pretty good. You can also create a paste with alcohol and 1 aspirin and apply to area, works pretty well too.

limit the intake of dairy, red meat, high fat foods, fried foods, greasy foods, and foods with oil.
increase the amount of fresh foods (fruits, veggies, etc) and whole grains in your diet, and lean protiens such as beans, chicken and fish, cooked w/out oil. also increase water intake
you'd be amazed how much this helps.. as does regular exercise, and even trips to a steam room/sauna if available to you.
good luck.
