Depression is real, even if it could be 10 times worse. "I have no reason to be depressed, people are starving in Africa"--right. Doesn't work that way. You definitely do sound depressed. The fact that you don't feel you have a right to be depressed is another symptom of depression. Please talk to your medical doctor and seek help from a therapist.

When you were in London you were in a comfortable environment for you, you "safety zone." Even if you had a chemical imbalance there it wouldn't have been to obvious and you could have figured it was just daily stress. Now that your here and out of your comfort zone you don't have that ability to cope anymore so every "little" thing is seeming like a giant stressor.

Even so, don't ever think that you don't have a "right" to be depressed. Every situation is different and if you feel something, say it. After my 6 year old son passed away people didn't want to come to me with their problems as they figured I had enuff of my own. But I figure everyone hurts in someway, and even though it may not rank up there with mine, pain is pain and all pain should be cared for in the same manner, with compassion and understanding. Your problems are not too small, don't hide them away cause they may grow into more. Talk about them, cry, get mad, whatever it is you have to do to deal with these changes. Your right, life could be worse, but that doesn't stop the here and now from hurting sometimes. If it gets too bad, talk to someone professional, I figured the world would be a much better place if everyone had someone to complain too lol.

Lot of good answers here. Can't add much. Getting out to make new friends and get yourself into some social activities would be great. Start a blog page and tell people how you feel.

Ignore the person who said depression isn't real. Millions could prove him wrong. Of course some of them are dead from suicide. I don't think you are THAT kind of depressed tho. More of a situational depression than a chemical imbalance one that needs life time management.

Hang in there.

Sometimes people have to go through the grief process even for a move. It's not uncommon, because if you really think about it, moving is a LOSS. You have to re-adjust. Yes, it could be ten times worse, but think about moving through a loss and get on with life. Find something fun to do and people to do it with. You'll be okay, really, hang in there!

You seem to be describing what world travelers refer to as "culture shock". This is a time period of adjustment that can be difficult for the person.

People can become somewhat disoriented when they move to a new location or situation.

If how you are feeling and dealing with life is not working for you, this is the time to address it with a Dr. or counselor.
-- It really does help
-- There's no need to stay "stuck"

Depression is about as real as Santa Clause or the Easter bunny, it is not a brain disease, sounds to me like you are going through a lot of stuff right now and may need a break? It is really all right to feel all of your feelings the bad and the good, the bad times do pass that is a promise. Depression is a lie, you are missing home and where you were and the friends that you have lost so try to make new ones, get out and do some partying if you are young and find a job and things get on with your life. What you will lose in income and self esteem if you worked and got paid for it or income if you got benefits is something that can not be replaced. So weigh carefully the reason that you are doing what you are doing.

Becareful because some people are dead from drug suicides and overdoses and druggies will try to push these drugs on you and they are in a half stupor kind of mind fog, they can not tell that a dude would not have the nickname of superkitten? If that is the brightest they are no wonder that they believe in a chemical imbalance, one that needs life time management. They are probably high on these drugs while they are answering these questions? Who knows some people like drugs. There is no valid and reliable scientific evidence for it. These kinds of people are dangerous, very dangerous to themselves and others at all times so becareful of them.
