i had a similar problem that was doing my head in nothing on the add/rem but it was on my laptop, for some unknown reason it had been put in another folder by mistake i done a search and it found it,the only other way i can think of is go to system restore to date before ll this crap started and see what happens or try installing ie7 over the top if you have c and d drives is to reformat you're c drive,if you only have one drive make a copy of everything you need to keep on a disc andthen re-format which will take it back to the day it was first bought.I really hope you get it sorted out

LOL @ Mike...exactly
Go to Control Panel
Add/Remove Programs
Select the "Add/Remove Windows Components" tab on the left pane
This will bring up a list of windows programs where you can de-select windows explorer and remove it.
EDIT: YOU'RE NOT LISTENING....READ...I hate it when you try to give advise and someone just doesn't get it.

PLEASE READ OUR ANSWERS. SOME PEOPLE ARE TELLING YOU TO GO TO ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS ITSELF. THIS WILL NOT WORK. YOU NEED TO GO INTO THE ADD/REMOVE WINDOWS <> AREA IN ORDER TO REMOVE IT!
In order to "remove" IE from windows, you need to go to control panel, double click on add/remove programs, then click add/remove components on the left hand side. Once the prompt comes up, uncheck the box next to internet explorer, and click next. You will most likely need to restart your computer.
Keep in mind, that several components in windows, such as windows update, require internet explorer, and without it, you can't get updates.
One thing that you can do, is to download a copy of firefox (http://mozilla.com), and set it as your default browser over IE. To do this, click on the start menu, and click set program access and defaults. When it loads, click the bubble next to custom. Under the choose a default web browser, click the bubble next to firefox (assuming that you downloaded and installed it). Click ok.
Hope this helps!

There is now way to uninstall it from control panel. SO you are just gonna have to delete the icons and the folder from program files as well as internet exlporer from windows>system 32 folders... OR just search internet in search bar and delete every thing ....that has some thing to do with IE...after that just restart the pc..and u are done.

Like leo once said.... In theory it's almost impossible to uninstall it all. there will always be some residual files or something of it on XP.
