A pop up came up on my computer saying something along the lines the my copy of windows vista had expired and i need to either buy a new code or retype the new one. I'm not sure if this is a legit windows program or if its a spyware thing trying to get my key code or whatever, so I'm not sure if I should type in my code. What should I do...I have never heard of Vista expiring.

this is a legal copy of windows that i am using, not a trial, I got this a couple of months ago when I bought parts for a computer I made from newegg.com...I'm pretty sure that I registered Vista when it first asked me to...should I just put in the key again? I just wanted to make sure that this wasn't a virus or spy ware or anything

beta versions of vista were available last year before the launch for testing for free but they expire by june so you may have got one of these, the free beta versions expire so everyone needs to pay for it once it is released. ring ms and ask them what is going on

I think it's spyware.

Im pretty sure windows would never do that, because the previous OS never expire. Maybe the warranty and all, but not the OS itself.

Or maybe it's a trial you used.

But as for me, i would stay away, and get a scan.

If you have not registered it then it will expire just like windows XP, you had 30 days to register it either by phone or online, so you need to check it out with MS A,S,A,P

When you purchase Vista, it should come with a product key. That popup should have a link or instructions on how to enter in the product key. Do that, enter in your key, and it will be okay.

XP did the same thing.

Your copy should have activated, I assume it is a trial copy loaded over XP. I you bought it installed and your key does not work, go to your supplier, they should have provided a correct key.
