Paint your walls a light gray or khaki/gray, do the black and white photography, and buy replacement hardware for your cherry furniture in brushed nickel. Most drawer pulls and knobs are $2-$5 each, so it's a cheap way to update from the gold. They are available almost everywhere - Target has some good ones, as well as Menards, Lowes, Home Depot, etc. Choose an accent color (I recommend a deep red) and add it in places like a decorative pillow on the bed and a black & white vase with red flowers in it. Maybe red candles, too.

Black and white wall accessories with hints of gold does need a vibrant color to dominate the room and enhance the black-and-whiteness. Anything warm will drown out the gold and cherry, I think, and that would be a shame, and anything remotely pastel wouldn't fit at all. Anything too bold would overpower the black and white photos. A moderate or organic blue, green, or purple I think would be nice. If you have plants, then an airy/watery blue or a light royal shade might do the trick. I'm not sure what shade the cherry is, but it might look awkward with purple.

What's your favorite color?
Buy a bedding set in a print with some black, white, and a bright color you really like.
Pick a medium bright shade of any color except pink or lavender [ they would enhance the 'girly' influence ]; deep rose red, melon, most shades of yellow, sage, royal - sea- or teal blue, bright purple, caramel.
Paint the walls the bright color.
Frame all your photos in the same color/material [oak/cherry, brass/pewter, black enamel/white ] so you can move them around, even to a different room.
Make all other accessories either the bright, black, or white -
rugs, chairs, pillows, lamps, shades, candles, desk/dresser stuff.

Change your handles to a more modern look & it will
change the look of the entire bedroom set. Then stay with your black/white theme. Try a pretty spring color for walls to use as back drop for photos. Maybe even one wall in red or tourqoise. A nice black & white comforter - Wal Mart & Target have them. Accent pillows to match walls.

If you want to play up the bedroom furniture instead, then try a
cream with red toile comforter set. I use this in one of my guest rooms. I bought it from Overstock.com The room has white walls, black & white photos, & black accent pictures with white sheer curtains. The only color comes from a red throw rug & a red accent pictures. I am told it is bold & beautiful.

Stick with your black and white. To make your bedroom set more contemporary, simply go buy some stainless (they can be silver plastic that looks like stainless) drawer pulls and handles. This will completely change the look of the furniture, I promise! Use your b/w photography and work around that. Add some silver/grey to bring it all together.

haha I wonder if you made your question intentionally like this? "bedroom ideas" sounds a little suggestive...

Anyways. I would suggest getting a black and white rug with a cherry-like border that will make your room pull together nicely. Or maybe black-white-grey curtains and sew on a cherry border. It'll make things synchronized.
