Traditionally, only the brides wear white so she can stand out from the crowd on her wedding day.
However, I've seen brides dress her bridesmaids in white too, and I've seen black-and-white weddings where everyone wore black or white. These are rare, of course, but it's not unheard of!

I've been to two weddings where, in fact, the bride didn't wear white. One wedding the bride wore light blue, the other wedding the bride was adorned in peach. I think there isn't so much protocol these days. I have to say, however, that the two weddings where the bride didn't wear white were in Australia. The American weddings I've attended have all featured brides wearing white. Maybe a difference in culture?

Because white is traditionally for the bride, and you don't want to appear as though you're stealing attention from the bride. Silly, but it's still rude to wear an all-white dress to a wedding.

It's supposed to be so you don't outshine the bride...but really has anyone ever seen a guest outshine the bride? No matter how many designer labels the guests wear it is still the bride and groom's day, everyone knows who's wedding they are at, I reckon that rule was made up by some bridezilla who was being too demanding.

To stand out! If everyone wore white, the bride would just blend in. If she's the only one in the whole room wearing white, she's always going to stand out.

At the wedding, the groom can wear white as well. But no one else should. why wouldyou want to overshadow the bride by wearing the same color. If it were a coincidence, then yeah, whatever, but you know what color the bride is going to be wearing. Its it sucks when someone wears white to your wedding. My sister-in-law wore white to my wedding. and if she ever gets married one day I'm gonna wear white to her wedding.

So the Bride can stand out, and no one else tries to out do her and she is the center of attention. Pure and happy!

yep
Attending a wedding for the first time, a little girl whispered to her mother, "Why is the bride dressed in white?"
"Because white is the color of happiness and today is the happiest day of her life," her mother tried to explain, keeping it simple.
The child thought about this for a moment, then said, "So, why's the groom wearing black?"
no really i dunno
