Try being extremely nice without being patronizing. Usually this works. The hard part is keeping this up for an extended period of time. If the person feels like you are genuinely trying to help them they will usually (but not always, unfortunately) change their tone. And don't forget, there are times when you need to breathe deeply before responding to something they have said.

After work it's important to have some kind of hobby where you can let out the pent-up aggressions. Doing some kind of sport, playing an instrument or something similar would be good.

If I'm getting paid to put up with people I will try to let any rude comments of behavior go. I won't worry about what those morons think.

If I'm in some social situation with rude people I will say things like "Wow, burp more. I bet you can burp louder. I don't think the other people in the room heard you. Do it more. We all love it. Really. We do. Please, drink more beer. You're not obnoxious enough." The goal is to be way over the top. Otherwise I just make very dry sarcastic comments that are usually insultng or offensive to the rude person. I'm really not very nice about it.

If you're in the service sector, you have to be prepared and expect all kinds of attitude. Even in one's daily life, one meets all kinds.
Just attend to these rude customers' needs and move on. Don't let their rudeness affect you and your performance. Just stay neutral.

The customer may be a flaming idiot, but he's still the customer. Without him, you would have no job. Don't let them get under your skin.
I intentionally try to me nice to sales clerks, i know the BS they must deal with.

My first thought is pitty, because someday they will answer why they were. As for customers in a store ...i would smile and say yes/no sir/Mame. Nothing quiets a jerk and gets them out of the way faster than a smile and a receipt.
