If Jesus saved us from sin, how come people still sin?

Where does sin come from? If God made us all, and God is good, how does sin get into the world?

If all humans have free will, why don’t they choose good instead of evil?

Could Jesus have saved us without dying on the cross? If he died of cancer, would that have saved us?

If Jesus’ Father wanted him to die on the cross, doesn’t that make the Father seem bloodthirsty? Explain.

Whoa, one question at a time please. I will answer the question on sin and evil.

God did not create a perfect world. In fact, God could have created a better world (St. Thomas Aquinas). God created this world "in a state of journeying." The more perfect exists alongside the less perfect. Nature has both constructive and destructive forces. Physical good will always be mixed with physical evil until creation reaches perfection.

Peace and blessings!

You just asked a lot of questions. Here goes my answers!
1) If Jesus saved us from sin, how come people still sin?
The penalty of sin is death. Jesus made it possible for us to have eternal life in heaven. We still sin because we were given free will.

2) Where does sin come from? If God made us all, and God is good, how does sin get into the world? Yes, everything God made is good and perfect. However, He does not want blind followers or robots. he wants us to freely choose to follow us. Sin is choosing not to follow him. Sin is a choice. the choice is God or not.

3) If all humans have free will, why don’t they choose good instead of evil? People don't choose evil when they sin. They choose a lesser good. If I was to steal a flower, that flower is good, but not as good as obeying God. I choose to steal the flower because it is beautiful and good, not because it is evil.

4) Could Jesus have saved us without dying on the cross? If he died of cancer, would that have saved us? Jesus died according to the prophets' visions.

5) If Jesus’ Father wanted him to die on the cross, does not that make the Father seem bloodthirsty? It may seem bloodthirsty, but it had been a custom to sacrifice animals. This was a longs standing custom. This type of sacrifice is not perfect, and Jesus, being God, his sacrifice WAS prefect, and beyond time. He didn't just save those before him or after him, but everyone, including Adam and Eve down to your great great great grandchildren and beyond, until the end of time.

I hope I wasn't too long winded. Feel free to email me to discuss this further. Books have been written on each of these questions so I tried to summarize as best I could.

Could Jesus have saved us without dying on the cross? If he died of cancer, would that have saved us?

** Jesus is sinless and he is also divine, so he was not subject to death by any means. Jesus specifically chose to lay down his life for his "friends". **

If Jesus’ Father wanted him to die on the cross, doesn’t that make the Father seem bloodthirsty?

While Jesus didn't necessarily have to die on a cross, he did have to die at the hands of the evil one. There was no other way to secure mankind's redemption.

Due to Adam's sin, Satan held the power of death over mankind, and there was no natural way of throwing off the supernatural bonds which Satan had over the whole world.

But no one, not even Satan the devil, had the right to take the life of an innocent and sinless man, let alone the only son of God.

Jesus came, and he permitted Satan and his minions, the Jews and the Romans, to take his life, even though they had no right to do it.

By so doing, Jesus allowed them to bring about their own destruction.

Just as death is the penalty for sin, one who has no sin is not liable to die.

Jesus had no sin, and when Satan engineered his death, he broke the flip side of the same law that Adam originally did.

As a result, Satan subsequently forfeited everything he had earlier gained from Adam's sin, mankind was free, and our redemption in Christ was truly at hand.

The theology of redemption is peculiar, but it works.

Ok- here are your answers

- People still sin because God died so that we could choose between in eternity in heaven or one in hell. That didn't say we would not sin if he died.

- Sin comes from Satan. It got into the world when Satan (as a snake) offered Eve a fruit off of a tree God had forbidden her to eat off of. She ate it with Adam and thats when sin came into the world.

- Simply because we are not good human beings. Consider it like this, why did the jews accept Jesus as first and then months later yell Kill him! We all sin, its just a human instinct

- No, he had to die this death. Understand, Jesus died on the cross because if he didn't we would have to and in those times dieing on the cross was one of the most painful deaths a human could experience.

His father, God, is not bloodthirsty as you call it. Like I said, this was the way he had to die. I mean if he died of cancer do you honestly believe so many people would have come to know him. People die from cancer everyday but hardly anyone is beaten and then nailed on the cross just so that we could live.

That's AWESOME

I know that some questions seem a little to thats not possible, but you need to understand, our brains don't exactly work the way God does. Were not that smart right now, but in heaven we'll understand and get the answers.

Hope this in someway helped

jesus saved us from the ultimate EFFECT of sin---eternal death. He did not save us from sinning.

Sin came from Free Will. God did not create humans to be puppets (although I happen to think this might be a design flaw---puppets seem much more manageable!) He wants us to FREELY love him because forced love is not really love at all.

Why not just choose good? Evil is so much more attractive. God look at the Adam/Eve story---the crux of it all is that they thought God was holding out on them.....and so it is today....

I dont think it had to be a cross----but the paradox of the cross is quite interesting if you look at the socioeconomic situation surrounding crucifixion in Roman occupied states. It was the ultimate 'low life' way to die....I don't think cancer would have 'worked' because there is not 'choice' in that.

I wont go into great detail about why the necessity of Jesus' death---St. Anselm does a lot of work with this---how an eternal being can only make restitution to an eternal being. Sacrifice was and is a common way of attonement.....That particular subject could fill a book, and it has!

when Jesus saved us, it was the sins we have done before that point

Sin comes from Satan. That originated from Adam and Eve and the evil tree

Humans aren't perfect, plus there is Satan involved. he wants us to do evil things instead of good. We always will have greed and be self-centered in some ways.

Jesus couldn't have died of cancer, he is the Son of God. There would have been nothing to pay our sins with. His death paid the price for us. If he didn't die, we would have to pay the price.

No, God is not bloodthirsty. God just loves us a lot...eternally...he did that so we won't have to pay the price of sinning. We'd be saved if Jesus died on the cross

These are all reasons to believe in God...God is really, truely great. I'm glad you have these questions and they are really good. I hope i helped and don't forget you can always ask a pastor in church

Jesus was just a way-shower. He came to show that even when the physical dies , our spirit nature survives.
I'm puzzled by some of your questions ,too. If God created everything , and a part of him is IN everything, how can anything be completely evil, like Satan ? So why doesn't he just un-create Satan ? And yes the god of the Old Testament seemed kind of petty ,vengful, jealous, all those things we're not supposed to be, but after his son comes down here and starts a new religion, He changes - All-loving , all-compassionate, etc. So how could this new God sentence anyone to eternal suffering ? ?
I don't have all of the answers , yet.

He saved us from the consequences of sin.

There is a parable about a sower who planted some seeds, during the night an enemy came and sowed weeds.

As for free will people tend to usually pick the easier option, good from a techneological viewpoint, sometimes bad from the spiritual viewpoint.

Jesus would not have died from cancer,He is the life and light of this world.
Its the what and not the how thats important anyway.

God the Father knew His Son would rise again. It was obviously something so important that it had to be done,
Who knows what all the politics involved,
There could have been discussions in Heaven that we know nothing about.

Even though Jesus died for our sins we can still sin because of free will. If we didn't have free will we'd all be like the sims and that would be really boring. Also God wouldn't know if we truly loved him and believed in him if he controlled us completely. There is evil in the world to test us. Everyone should find Christ on their own and accept him in to their hearts.

saved those who want it. you have to accept Christ as your Lord and Savior and repent to be included in the sin-free lifestyle (not being saved is a sin).

sin got here when Adam and Eve decided "God's not good, let's not do what He says and eat the fruit". evil was a constant, as God is all good, and therefore you have to have something to distinguish what is good. evil has no power if not adhered to though (don't sin)

no. there were many prophesies made about how it had to be done. from the beginning "the wages of sin is death" and so He had to die. death was signified with bloodshed. so He had to have shed blood. cancer has no shed blood. the sacrifice has to be perfect. Jesus, having God's blood, was 100% qualified.

no. you gotta do what you gotta do. before it was only those 'born' into it who got to Paradise. now it's those who were born again who get to be with God.
