Can religion be God's enemy?

1. Every day people kill others in the name of religion. From the Crusades to the conflict in the Middle East, it seems that religion can go against everything God is. How can you serve a loving God by killing His children in His name?

2. It seems that instead of uniting us in faith, love of thy neighbor and love of the Lord, religion pulls us apart. These days you can't be just Christian - we classify ourselves into Catholic, Methodist, Baptist, Evangelical etc. Instead of being faithful, we are split into camps, groups, movements that fight with each other for money, donations and power.

3. Have we limited the great concept of God and the Holy scriptures to the narrowest of interpretations just to comprehend them? Is religious dogma doing more harm than good?

I respect people's religious views. This post is in no way meant to put off or insult any faithful, agnostics or atheists. Please do not take offense. I want a civilized discussion. :)

The apostles and disciples who traveled though out the Roman empire spreading the word were united in a common theme, as the epistles of Paul and others show. A stream of feed back, personal or written, was essential to keep the teachings of Christ from being interpreted by people so as to suit their individual needs.

As time passed, so to did these men. The parents where gone and the children could raid the cookie jar.

Christ warned that this would happen, and it has.

It is sad, as I believe that all of the denominations, at there core, have the best of intentions for their flock, but fail to look at the scriptures in their most literal sense. Everyone wants to add some interpretation of this or that and it mucks up the truth.

Individual Church dogma is doing more harm than good as it continues to drive the wedges ever deeper. They used to have you to believe in Christ or not. Now they force you to believe in their own brand of 'truth', and if you don't like it, find someone else who cares.

We have added to this problem, as we attempt to find camps, groups or movements that fit conveniently into our particular way of life, minimizing any potential consequences a different form of the same religion may impose upon you.

All will be held accountable for their actions and choices in the end. See ya there......

religion always has to defend itself. That's their main defense.
"death to those that don't believe the way I DO"
that's how you know it's a trap.
Lately, it seems to be more a defensive position than offensive. Not that it should be a football game. But is sure seems that way.
To classify yourself means you lost your main focus. Most Christians are taught dogma. Their dogma is right and everyone else's is wrong. Hence the fighting.
It's very silly.
To narrow the concept of God, is like putting God into a garage and telling him he can only be a Volkswagen. Because they were taught to believe that. In stead he's a BMW or Mercedes, but they are trapped. Unfortunately that leads to God doing very limited things in their lives.
Blessings

i think about that all the time...
i mean religion is a man made group... and people look at all these messed up religions and just throw away the idea of god.
when people make up the image of a god.. well its going to be flawed.. people are messed up imperfect things.. and we are all so very diverse, so no wonder some religions would piss off some others.. and in the process it ends up hurting the possibility of a god.

i mean i think if everyone just ignored every preconceived thought about god.. ignored every religion, i think we would all make more educated decisions about the possibility of a god.

Oh! After a lengthy time period I were given this question at last! certain! And certain! this is the 'faith' in basic terms, that makes us sense that this is the enemy of God certainly! So smart question! If there have been no different religions, then i imagine, there have been no communal clashes ever! this is the religions in basic terms that has grow to be the great enemy of the God...er...I propose, Bhagwan, God, Allah etc. Even this may stop the way of being an Atheist, like me!
