i went to the hospital this morning, after having seen my doctor on wednesday. The hospital did tests on me and advised me that i came out positive with mono. Is there anything i can do so help my body recover? I have medicated mouth gargle which nums my throat for approx 10-15mins. I'm having a really hard time swallowing my own saliva, its so painful, the only thing that i can eat is soup, I'm just looking for advise or things that have worked for yourselfs or others in the past.
thanks
everyone in advance,

The sore throat aspect will go away. Avoid citrus fruits/juice as they will really irritate your throat. Acetominophen (Tylenol) will help. The important thing is to get all the rest you can. I didn't and ended up with permanent liver damage. Mono is often considered innocuous, but it can leave you with problems if you don't take care of yourself. You may get some relief from drinking cold water, tea, and from smooth foods like yogurt and ice cream. I know it's frustrating to be so limited in what you're able to do because of the fatigure, but do your best to take care of yourself. That will help you get through this more quickly.

All my family has had Mono. We know your pain! The best help we had is to gargle with regular Listerene 3 or 4 times daily. Rest, sleep, and rest! The worse of the symptoms lasts from 7 to 10 days, then you just have lots of fatigue for a month or two, and that can come back for the rest of your life, whenever your immune system gets run down. My daughter was diagnosed 2 months ago. I told her to get a good Prenatal vitamin. After her throat healed she has been able to go on a cruise, took a trip to Minnesota, and right now is in the Grand Canyon. I know your a guy, but that vitamin really helps build your immunse system up when your really down, as you arre with Mono. I urge you to give it a try. It's a virus which must run it's course so you have to be patient and listen to your body. Rest when you are tired. Eat all the healthy foods you can. No junk food, no alcohol. This is the quickest way I know to get on your feet again and rejoin life. You push yourself, and you'll start all over! Pleaase try these ideas and I think you'll be habnging out with your friends before you know. Just don't do anything to your sore throat is gone. Get well soon! Lots of luck!!!

I had mono a few years ago. It is tough. The sore throat, the headache, aching, etc. The best thing for mono is plenty of rest to give your body time to heal. Also, if you can get to a health food store or have someone go for you, they can tell you what supplements you can take to give you strength and help you back to health. You will feel like it is recurring if you are too active, too soon, so take it easy. The first six weeks was the worst. Then I slowly started feeling better. Really took me about a year before I felt like my old self. So take care and I hope you are better soon.

The single most important thing you can do to help yourself recover is to rest! You should be up and around in a couple of weeks.
> Take an analgesic for pain (Tylenol, Advil)
> Chloroseptic throat spray as a temporary anesthetic
> Stick to soups and soft foods until your throat improves
> Avoid alcohol now and for 30 days after you recover
> Avoid strenuous activity, exercise and contact sports for 1- 2 months after you recover
> Rest, rest and more rest

It's really important to rest and behave! Sometimes with mono the liver can swell and goofing around - even bouncing around is not a good idea. Baby yourself and get lots of fluids and rest.

I don't think there is a complete cure for mono! a friend of mine got it in Jr. high, and she still has "flare-ups" of it. She is in her lower 30's now
