Each person is different and will progress differently. Usually, a black belt rank should take about 5 years to attain based on your prior experience in martial arts, how hard you practice, and physical abilities. A school where you can attain a black belt too quickly might be a sign of a "watered down art" or "McDojo." Ask the black belts at your school how long it took them to attain their black belt and that will be the best gauge of how long it should take you. I took Villari's karate as a kid, but do not remember how long it would take to get to black belt (I was only in it for a few months). Do not worry about belts. A black belt is only the beginning of your journey as a martial artist anyway.
