I had my wisdom teeth removed Friday morning. My left cheek is massively swollen. It hurts like crazy. I'm not sure but when I look back in my mouth it looks like he may have stitched my cheek to my gum. When will the stitches dissolve and how long until my face goes back to normal? Is there anything I can do to make it go down faster? Am I just being paranoid?

A day or two at the most.

My cheeks never swelled and I got all wisdom teeth removed, while I was awake.

If wisdom tooth is removed properly the swelling and pain goes down within 5 days, and if there is remaining of any part of the root or if there is infection in the cavity then swelling and pain may increase due to infection, and you need some antibiotics to control infection. Any how you keep your oral hygiene(brush regularly, there should not be any food or foreign particle in the cavity use of less sweets). If condition not improved get medical help.

Appy an icepack to your cheek. You really should not be in agonizing pain. Swelling is normal. I looked like a chipmunk, but there was no great pain. By now you should be feeling better, just sore and uncomfortable. If you do not see any improvement by the morning, call the dentist, though tomorrow is a holiday. I presume you are taking your antibiotics. Try some advil or aleve too!!!!! Feel better. Takes a week to 10 days for all the stitches to dissolve. Expect some tightness as it heals, but it should be discomfort, not genuine pain.

I got mine pulled on friday as well (all 4) and the procedure itself seemed to be fine. I didn't bleed at all afterwards. I ate mashed potatoes and hot milk and tea for a few days. Apparently though, drinking hot liquids is bad? I seem to be fine though. The swelling is pretty much gone (the worst was saturday) and I even ate pizza yesterday night and was fine. Just rinse a lot with saltwater and mouthwash. Although it looks like i have stiches or something on the lower front sidish of my left side. I think it'll just go away soon.

OK, well I work for an oral surgeon! The swelling should go down in about 4 days. Usually the 2nd to the 3rd is the worst, but by the 4th you should be good to go! If not call the office, and make an appointment!

i recently had my wisdom teeth taken out also. however, i didn't experience any swelling to my face, just soreness. everyone's body reacts differently. my gums on the bottom were both stitched as well. my dentist told me that they will come out on its own.

you should apply ice packs on your face to keep the swelling down and it should be down in a couple of days. if not, call your dentist.

You are scaring me. Mine come out next week. I was told 2-4 days before the swelling goes down and lots of ice packs. My advice as a nursing student (and future fellow wisdom tooth removal victim) take your pain killer, put some ice on and relax.

It should reach its worse on day 3. Mines started to come down after 3 1/2 days. Keep it heated. Use a heating pad or towel. Ice is recommended for only the first 24 hours. When sleeping or laying down, keep your head elevated with two pillows. Keep taking those meds. Good luck! =)

Stitches will dissolve in about a week. For the swelling apply ice.
