the bible says that "god" created man in his image, and when the first men were around, they were cavemen. so in theory, wouldn't that make "god" a caveman...another hole in the christian beliefs? sounds like it...

p.s. i'm an atheist, so atheists, dont call me dumb, and christians, dont spread hate, give a good answer

you can quit calling me stupid..so if adam looked like modern man, why would god take so many steps back to neanderthal and homo erectus, and that sort of thing...and we have plenty of evidence of previous species of human, so they must exist...maybe i wasnt specific enough...

what you refer to as "cavemen" were not homo-sapiens. i think christians are retards, but it is not out of the realm of possibilities that god used evolution in the creation.

therefore, the bible verse could more accurately depict the idea that homo-sapiens are god's image.

Well, if you believed the Bible to be a literal document then yes I suppose some might see it that way. But cavemen date before God created Adam, so that presents a conflict doesn't it.

The holes you keep finding are not holes for me hun because I believe in dinosaurs, cavemen, and an earth millions of years old, I believe in Bangs (bangs, not bongs, lol) and evolution and gravity (when you are my age, there is no question on that one) and ancient history and all those wonderful things we can learn about.

And guess what...I still believe in God. So have a hug from a Christian, they are free, no sermons, no threats...just a free hug.

The Bible doesn't talk about cavemen - but rather about the garden of Eden and what that was like.

I think the answer to your question has to come from the other way (who is God and what does it mean to be made in His image)

On the last day of creation, God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness” (Genesis 1:26). Thus, He finished His work with a “personal touch.” God formed man from the dust and gave him life by sharing His own breath (Genesis 2:7). Accordingly, man is unique among all God’s creations, having both a material (body) and an immaterial (soul / spirit) part.

Having the “image” or “likeness” of God means, in the simplest terms, that we were made to resemble God. Adam did not resemble God in the sense of God’s having flesh and blood. Scripture says that “God is a spirit” (John 4:24) and therefore exists without a body. However, Adam’s body did mirror the life of God, insofar as it was created in perfect health and was not subject to death.

The image of God refers to the immaterial part of man. It sets man apart from the animal world, fits him for the “dominion” God intended (Genesis 1:28), and enables him to commune with his Maker. It is a likeness mentally, morally, and socially.

Mentally, man was created as a rational, volitional agent—in other words, man can reason and man can choose. This is a reflection of God’s intellect and freedom. Any time someone invents a machine, writes a book, paints a landscape, enjoys a symphony, calculates a sum, or names a pet, he or she is proclaiming the fact that we are made in God’s image.

Morally, man was created in righteousness and perfect innocence, a reflection of God’s holiness. God saw all that He had made (mankind included) and called it “very good” (Genesis 1:31). Our conscience or “moral compass” is a vestige of that original state. Whenever someone writes a law, recoils from evil, praises good behavior, or feels guilty, he is confirming the fact that we are made in God’s own image.

Socially, man was created for fellowship. This reflects God's triune nature and His love. In Eden, man’s primary relationship was with God (Genesis 3:8 implies fellowship with God), and God made the first woman because “it is not good that the man should be alone” (Genesis 2:18). Every time someone marries a wife, makes a friend, hugs a child, or attends a church, he is demonstrating the fact that we are made in the likeness of God.

Part of being made in God’s image means that Adam had the capacity to make free choices. Although he was given a righteous nature, Adam made an evil choice to rebel against his Maker. In so doing, Adam marred the image of God within himself, and he passed that damaged likeness on to all his children, including us (Romans 5:12). Today, we still bear the image of God (James 3:9), but we also bear the scars of sin. Mentally, morally, socially, and physically, we show the effects.

The good news is that, when God redeems an individual, He begins to restore the original image of God, creating “the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness” (Ephesians 4:24; see also Colossians 3:10).

Maybe the Genesis account is not about creation, but about restoration. Other humanoids could have existed before Adam, but Adam was the first created in God's image - that is having a spirit and being able to communicate with God.

I believe in God and the Bible and I am a Christian. Do I believe in “cavemen?” I sure do. Cavemen are just men who live in caves. There are real live cavemen that live in Australia today. At the town of Coober Pedy where it's so hot, people live under ground, instead of on top, and they have TV sets in their houses. Real live cavemen with TV sets!

You see, there have been many times in the past when people have lived in caves. You could imagine that after the event of the Tower of Babel, people spread out over the earth, and some of them would have gone and lived in caves. Because people have been so indoctrinated by evolution, they tend to think that because someone lived in a cave, they were primitive—they were not as advanced as us or something like that.

Actually, it is interesting to look at the cave paintings of some of the people that lived in the past, like Cro Magnon man. Now, I certainly couldn't draw paintings as good as they have done. They showed people with their clothes and hats on. They were exquisite paintings. You see, these people were obviously highly intelligent and were not “ape men.” Just because they live in a cave, doesn't mean they were primitive.

If you are a true atheist no matter what anyone says, you will dismiss as fiction so why even bother to ask.
What you want to know is the opinion of Christians, right?
Well we humans have a head, two arms, two legs and a body.
Because we humans cannot imagine anything more perfect than a human being, it follows that God, being perfect has to have those attributes.

well your question made me smile, but the bible never says the first men were cavemen.

God is Spirit, He made mankind in His image, meaning they were different than the animals, mankind has the ability to think about things, mankind can make things, like clothes, homes, gardens,,,,,, the list goes on...

Animals don't think like humans, they don't make clothes or gardens or homes, or a lot of things humans can do.

A lot of people don't realize it, but common sense helps to understand a lot in the bible, just think it through.

and no i'm not making fun of anyone, just explaining a little.

Kinda makes you think that both the religious stories and the evolution are the same. Maybe we did look like cave men and evolved into what we are today. None the less something made a whole mess of wonderful people with the ability to think on our own. Great question.

Cavemen I don't believe in, but if it were true it would have been centuries before Adam's creation by God
Adam was a man , like God

Here is a good answer. There is no such thing as "cave men". Mankind was made in God's image. Body, soul, and spirit. Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Evolution is crumbling fast, and Atheists are pretty irate about it. Evolutionary theory has too many holes, and is closer to science fiction than true science.
