I really want a weimaraner dog but i want it as an inside dog. i had one when i was younger and it was the best dog i have ever had. i was hoping there is a smaller dog in the breed but haven't been able to find any in my research.

There is no such thing.

A full sized weim can be an indoor dog - in fact, it's preferred. They just take up more space than a 12 pound dog.

And make sure you know what you are getting into. The amount of exercise and attention these dogs need often surprises owners. Too much work is the #1 reason these dogs are given up.

There is not an "equavalent" either. I mean that with the Greyhound, there are Whippets and Italian Greyhounds - distinct and separate, yet similar breeds, all long and lean sighthounds. Some blue IGs look similar to weim pups, but they are COMPLETELY different animals in behaviour.

I know this is an old post, but for anyone googling this now, I have a suggestion. I have a beagle weimaraner mix. They have all the wonderful qualities of both breeds, yet the smaller size of a beagle. We got him when he was a puppy thinking he was a full bred blue beagle. As he got older we could tell more and more he was not full. We had his blood ran, and sure enough, he was also weimaraner! He gets moderate exercise and it's quite content. Sometimes he does get random bursts of energy and runs a figure 8 around my downstairs, but it only lasts maybe 3 minutes! We got him by accident, but I'm certain it was meant to be. Highly recommend this mixed breed! And as a plus (I didn't use him to breed so it didn't make a difference to me) if you're worried about having a breedable dog, these 2 mixed are highly sought out for by hunters -they are considered the perfect hunter- and typically pups with papers are sold for 500-1200 (depending on the bloodline) per pup.

There is such a thing as a minature dachsund (hotdog dog). They even can be AKC registered! Full sized can be anywhere to 15-25 pounds. Minatures are typically under 11 pounds. It sounds like you just want a pet, in which case you can also get the runt of the litter. I have two, one standard, and one minature which is a runt. Shes tiny! And she would brobably be 5 or 6 pounds if she wasn't so fat. Dachunds though can be inside dogs, even fullsized. Mine live indoors full time; they only go out to go to the bathroom. They are awesome dogs though, and one walk around the house is enough exercise. The only downside is that they are a little stupid, and hard to potty train. But super sweet and have good temperments!
Also, there is such a thing as toy dachunds, though Tthey are not a recognized size variation. However, there are some breeders breeding Dachshunds smaller than a Mini Dachshund and they are calling these dogs "Toys"

Weims are definitely indoor dogs, their short coat and gotta-be-with-you temperament demand that they be allowed in the house. Females are going to be smaller than males. There are no miniatures or toys in this breed. And yeah I know it is a lot like having a deer in the house. But you know those long legs fold up and they can still curl into your lap - amazing!

They are inside dogs. With the short coat and their tempermant they are not good kennel dogs. They can have a high degree of seperation anxiety.
They do not come in a minature form.
Hopefully they never do as it would be a lousy hunting dog. That is what they were bred for and to hunt they need to be the size they are.

No, there is no such thing as a toy or mini weimeriner. This is a sporting breed and it only comes in the one recognized size.

No, there isnt and i hope nobody ever breeds one. If you want something with a similar energy level but smaller, go with a miniture pinscer, pharaoh hound(looks like a small greyhound) or something like that. Or see if you can find a cross breed with weim in it thats dominant, just smaller.

No, that is not a breed. Maybe you'd like an (IG) Italian Greyhound or Whippet. You may check those out at http://www.akc.org You might like one of those. That's the closest I can think off. Good luck;^)
