Germans seem to be the worst followed closely by canadians and the U.K.
If you are from these countries please enlighten me as to your cheepness
Around here 18% is good service, 20% is great service, and 25% is for excellent service
People from other countries tend to tip about 6%-12%

I m German and work in the states right now in the hospitality business so I know exactly what you re talking about. In Germany the hourly wages for waiters and other service staff are much higher than in the states. As a waiter in the states earns $2-$3/h in Germany they earn up to $7. So Germans spend around 5% for tips since most people I guess know that that service staff doesn't earn that less.
When I came over here I was shocked about the wages and felt petty that you don't earn more. Since that time I tip 20%.( and it is easier to calculate)
I appologize for other germans or europeans who do not tip properly. But different country different habits. Some people will never get used to it.

In Germany the tip is normally included in the price given in the menu so they often just round up which gives the waiter/waitress an even better tip. There are many Germans who are not aware that it is not that way in other countries. So it's not always a case of being cheap, it's just a case of not knowing the tipping customs in a particular country before going there.

They're not used to tipping; in many countries wages are higher, and people don't normally tip at all, or just a little bit. Some waiters here even dislike tips, they see it as people thinking they need charity!
Of course, it would be good manners to check into local customs when going on a holiday or business trip, so these people really should know how to tip. But I guess it's carelessness of not checking up rather than cheapness that causes them to be bad tippers.

Well not all countries are the same and some may think it's more polite to even tip at all. And some countries don't get paid as much, why would you tip more than you make?

In many countries they don't tip because they pay their wait staff a decent wage. Here where the minimum wage is $5.35/hr wait staff only get paid $2.15/hr
So they are not used to the idea of paying extra for the wait person doing the job that they are supposed to be doing in the first place.

Maybe they don't think that you deserve as good of a tip as you think you deserve.

Another thing to consider is this: perhaps you are a lousy server compared to what they are used to in their home country. Honestly, if you are whining about your tips, and have time to compare tips based on the country your guests are from, I don't think you're doing all that great of a job. You obviously have time to spare.

Most likely the other countries actually pay their waitresses a decent wage and tips are not "expected" or "required".

Perhaps they are tipping as they would in what ever country they are from or perhaps they weren't as happy with the service they received as they should have been.
