As one previous answerer so simply put it, God made life and can take it away.
First of all, God's commandment was about murder, not just killing someone. Murder is killing for the sake of greed, jealousy/envy, anger or just for the sake of killing. Killing someone who is going to kill you is not murder. Capitol punishment (of truly guilty) is not murder.
God's forgiveness has nothing to do with peoples who had to die. These were peoples whose existence was dangerous to innocent lives - many not much different from the terrorists we see today.
By the way - forgiveness is not a handout. It comes after repentance. Patience spares lives, at least for a time. Patience comes with grace. Then, there is the idea of mercy, but God extends mercy on those whom He knows will benefit from it, or cause others to benefit from it.
This is the best explanation without writing a book.

Yes. Maybe if you read Ecclesiastes3 in the Bible it would help you understand.
I think you might be confusing God with man. Man lives by God's rules. God does not live by man's.
Thou shalt not kill: The first murder was Cain's jealousy of Abel and Cain killed him. They were brothers for goodness sakes. I dont think that is unreasonable for God to command his children not to kill.
Pretty much if the 10 commandments were followed every day by every human, the world would be a better place? The 10 commandments are a unit. Break one, you broke them all.
But if you, OK, took money for a candy bar from your Mom's purse, would it seem reasonable for God to kill you?
Yes, God forgives. You say I'm sorry, he says "You're forgiven."
Now as to killing as in war, war was also in the Bible and a way for peoples to protect themselves. But is it reasonable for you to kill someone who snuck in front of you in line at a grocery store?
I've had too many experiences to know that there is a God.
But His position is judge and justifier. Not mine. I'm subordinate to Him. I dont tell Him, order Him to do anything.
Our thoughts and ways arent His thoughts and ways. He's told us that. And thats that.
I do know but will not guarantee that if you ask Him what you just asked, He might answer. It depends on you also, as to if He'll answer. You might want to read the Book of Job on that.
Ultimately, I can say what I will in my words. The Bible is the Word of God. Therefore, the authority. Ask the source.

One- Its not hate. Two- God granted life, no person has the right to take it from another, its not your to take. Granted, people do not abide by the rules God has made for us. Its called free will. Though people shouldnt kill, sometimes thats the only way out of a certain situation. God sacrificed Jesus so that we could be forgiven for taking such dramatic actions. Though yuo also have to be devoted in your heart for the forgiveness... i believe.

God is and is the representation of good. He takes a stand against evil. The stories in the Old Testament of God commanding that His people wipe out a different tribe of people was to eradicate unrepentant evil.

the police by law have that license to kill don't they? the word "kill" in the ten commandments refers to malicious or unLawful killing. God, being all good, cannot be malicious and as the Judge, He has the right to sentence someone to death.
thing is, in the OT people didn't live in a time of grace. people either went to Paradise or Hell, and even Hell wasn't always permanent (Zechariah 9:9-12). those who died not knowing God went to Hell sadly but were released later to come to know Him if they never had that opportunity. If you were in Paradise, then you also got released later so you could get into Heaven. so was it really such abad thing?

Why were the kings of earth given to rule in matters of humanity? When I point a finger I know for certain that it is God who saved my life and not the man made king, for he was out doing battles and taking away many lives for his conquest of land and dominion, for power over the people and all that dwell upon the earth . No, I will not point the finger of death as coming from God.

i would think that if anyone would have the right to kill, it would be the creator of the universe. and i wouldnt look at it was killing. its not like he gets pissed off and pulls out his nine and starts going crazy. if it is someones time to go, then that is that. God always forgives when asked for his forgiveness. and is it really our place to take someone else's life into our own hands?

First of all, get your facts straight! Read and study the Bible, you will see that the "right" of capital punishment isn't the same as pre-meditated murder. (Thou shall not murder).
The commandments are holy according to Jesus.
God does forgive, those who have repented and asked for forgiveness.
And know that God will not be mocked, what you sow you will reap.
