Do you believe that Moses wrote the first five books of the Bible? Or do you accept the evidence to the contrary from the Bible itself? Genesis 36:31 refers to Israelite kings reigning, and thus reflects a knowledge of the monarchy. Deuteronomy 34, like the rest of the Bible, not only speaks about Moses in the third person, but also talks about his death as an event in the distant past ("never since..."). Do you accept the evidence from the Bible itself, or do you impose later traditions about authorship on the text, and why?

Just to clarify, it says that these kings reigned in Edom BEFORE ANY KING REIGNED IN ISRAEL. Genesis 12:6 is perhaps even more telling - it says "in those days the Canaanites were in the land"! A book can only have come into its present form after the latest event it refers to or clearly alludes to, and so Genesis is from a time much later than that of Moses.

I take a bit for each, then I question it all and decide what I see to be true.

James W...I believe you read the entire King James Bible and can quote chapter and verse. That is good. Nothing wrong with that.
I have an open mind, and intend to keep it that way.
Although there are those who are very opinionated, and some question a God or super being, others question the authenticity of Bible characters and church tradition.
What we have here is simple human input, going back in time, which gets distorted and changed to suit gnerations long gone and generations to come.
What I trust most over all of these is what I read in the World Almanac, book of Facts.
The Bible has often been misunderstood and misinterpreted.
The church's foundations were shaky at best, have changed too much, and are subject of criticism of late.
I do believe personally in a God and Jesus Christ and all the stories I've heard. And I do see where if everyone followed what Christ taught, we'd all live more harmoneously in this world.
I firmly believe our mission on earth is to improve it so much as to render earth very similar to Heaven.
To that end I spend my countless hours in pursuit.
Whenever faced with negativism, I turn it into a positive.
We need not be avid church goers or prestigious Bible interpreters to live according to what Jesus taught us.
These are my individual beliefs.

in all due respect i need for you to revisit chapter 36 of genesis. verse 31 is in reference to the kings of edom not israel. next: true the last chapter of the fifth book which moses wrote ends in the third person. i can only guess that the summary was written by joshua. next: the statement that you make about moses death being in the distant past is flawed. chapter 34 verse 10 states " there has never been another prophet in israel like moses ( key phrase now) whom the LORD knew face to face." in conclusion i do accept the BIBLE as the sacred word of GOD.in reference to your question concerning later traditions on authorship, i need for you to be more specific. thanks james keep on reading and studying THE WORD.

I think the bible does just want it was intended to do, to instruct man to live a righteous life. I believe that my God uses man all the time to do His work, and I believe the authors were God-inspired.
Why? Because the bible deals in facts (Colossians 2:8), I know what the bible says about itself (Psalm 19:7), I know what God intended the bible to do for me ( Gen. 1:1), and I know that the bible stands above all human opinions ((John 10:4, 5).

Believe the Bible and you will not go wrong. There are so many false beliefs out there that say they originated from the Bible but if you look close they isolate single verses or chapters and choose not to read the next verse. I believe the Bible from cover to cover. The Bible says that God's had his hand in writing the Bible so just believe.

The Bible is the inerrant, infallible Word of God. God inspired Moses and the other writers of the books of the Bible to write just what He wanted. The Bible does not contradict itself, a key factor in interpreting it.

I believe in God and I am a Christian. I believe what my head and my soul tell me. What I believe is not always the same as church dogma or what the Bible says.
Why...because God gave me a perfectly good brain, kicked my butt a couple and times and said "USE IT", lol...not exactly, I included a bit there just for dramatic effect.

I believe in the Bible because I have a little thing called faith..And with it I dont have to question everything about my God or my Bible everytime someone decides to be confused.
