Years and years ago when I was a kid I had to have some pretty major surgery and there were some disagreements with him and my parents and it kind of made them and him have a bad relationship. I feel sort of bad I'm 18 now and I mean he wasn't a great person and was pushy to the point of being an asshole at times but hes a wonderful surgeon and because of him I can live how I do now. So do you think I should just write a letter to sort of you know apologize and explain and tell him that I really appreciate it?

Yes tell him, it does not matter what profession a person is in if he did the best for you then you should thank him he will greatly appreciate it. Thanks for thinking of others it means that you have a good heart and you are willing to set straight a wrong. God bless and always let your heart lead you then you will never be wrong.

What happened between your parents and your surgeon was not your fault. Adults have disagreements, and the fact that it was about your treatment does not leave you responsible. If any party should apologize, it should be left to them.

However, if you feel that this person is responsible for you living right now, a letter of THANKS is certainly appropriate.
Something like this:
Dear Dr. SOANDSO,
You may not remember me, but several years ago, you performed a soandso surgery on me. That surgery saved my life. I am now 18, and [say something great about your life, such as where you're going to college, or what type of work you plan on pursuing]. I would not have these opportunities if not for your skills, and I just wanted to thank you.
Best,
YOURNAMEHERE.

I don't think you need to apologize, but expressions of gratitude for a job well done are seldom out of place.

Just tell him that " hes a wonderful surgeon and because of him I can live how I do now."

ask what your parents think.
could it have been done by a good and nice person.instead.?

and why would you want to encourage a jerk. unless you say thanks fro the work no thanks for the attitude. and what grief it caused already worried parents.and you..

maybe he should work with horses and left the people to someone else?
it sounds like he was only into the work not the people
he was paid for that .
what do feel you owe him? a person who made a terrible time worse?..
and why?

no need to apologize. you were a kid and did nothing wrong. if you wish to thank him for what he did for you, i'm sure he'd be glad to know it.
