Hi, I just got a puppy today (mom is a beagle, unknown what dad is) she looks like a beagle (ears, and build) but has the color/markings of a Rot, Doshund, or Pincer. So I'm not sure what the dad was.
Anyway, he said that the pups were 3 months old, and I know I have to get her shots. About how much will it cost me for all the shots she will need?
Also, is it normal for her to cry everytime I get up and not be holding her? Everytime I sit down, she crawls into my lap and sleeps. Is this just a phase since she was just taken from her mom/litter mates??

I'm not sure if she had her first set of shots. I know that he said that he gives the dogs shots himself, but stupid me didn't ask if she had any shots yet. I'll call him and ask!

The place where I got her was a camp ground. I went camping this weekend (I go every momorial day and labor day) so the owner knows me and my friends very well (been going for about 9 years now) It was his dog that had the pups, who is a farm dog.

If she is 3 months old, she should have already been wormed and had her first 2 vaccinations... You should have gotten a vaccination certificate w/ her.. Or at least paperwork as to what shots that the breeder gave to her, what he used for worming and anything else that might have been done.
Shots are different in different areas.. Generally you are talking approx $45.. IF she has had the shots she should have, you'll need 2 more, one of those will include a rabies shot.
I have an idea tho that she has nothing done.. You'll need to find out from the guy, and then talk to your vet.. Don't go dragging her all over town til you find out what's going on.. You risk picking up disease, or maybe spreading disease depending on where she came from..
Don't suck her up.. Don't let her sit on you all the time.. Get her a crate and crate train her.. You don't want to make her feel alone, but you don't want to turn her into a big sucky either.. Teach her that sometimes she will need to be alone, sometimes she can't sit on your lap..

She should have already had a few shots but at my vets in Australia is about 80 dollars for a vacination. She is just scared it will pass within a few days. I have had my puppy for 2 weeks now and he did that for the first couple of days. Try and just leave her alone and give her a nice bed to sleep in with a teddy or two to cuddle into. She is cry lots tonight so try and ignore her as long as possible. Its a good idea to put a small ticking clock under a blanket and a hot water bottle in a bed (not too hot). This creates a feeling of warmth and safety because the clock acts as a heart beat and the warmth is like the other puppies. A feed of nice warm milk is also good just before you put her to bed. Good Luck! Hope this helps.

Well, if in doubt get her updated,, better be safe than sorry.. unless the breeder can give you actual health certificates by the vet, I would err on the side of caution and get the shots done propperly even if they said they did them..
honestly if they could not keep their female from breeding and do not even know what the father was what would make them even remotely qualified to administer propper vaccinations, wormings and health checks??
As far as breed, the color you mention is quite common in dogs,, and also seen in beagles without the white.. so chances are a local smaller dog did the deed.. and you will not end up with a 100lb monster :)
as far as expenses..
Puppies need boosters 3-4 weeks apart, till they are over 4 months old.. they get vaccinations for distemper, parvo, lepto, rabies, kennel cough(for puppy classes and bording) wormings and routien vet exams to monitor health, weight gain and growth.. You will also need to get your puppy started on heartworm medication, and flea and tick medication
Price can vary but guess at least $100 (may be a bit less) a visit, for 2-3 visits..
As a general rule, start puting away a spay/neuter fund for that surgery now,, cost for that can be about $150-$300 so a little savings now each week will cover it.. a little as $5-$10 a week makes a big diffrence to cover that big bill, and also a emergency fund for your pet..
General expenses cost for dog ownership is about $1000 a year, to cover vet visits, vaccinations, heartworm medicine food, toys and such..
Depending on your area it can be higher, and if your pet has any medical problems that does increase cost.. but a $1000 budget covers most expenses, for most people..
As far as training,,
how to raise a puppy you can live with By ruthford and neil is a great book,, it is avalible on amazon and in most book stores..
But here is a great link for you to get started http://www.canismajor.com/dog/tpuppy.html
Good luck

If you do them yourself the shots are less than 6 bucks.
And she's looking for a friend, which is why she climbs into your lap and cries when she can't.
My puppy was standing at the door crying for me to come home for an hour earlier even though there were two other people home that were eager to cuddle with. some puppies just find certain people to be more cuddly, i guess.

she will also need to be on monthly heartworm medication & you should really put her on a flea preventative so she doesn't get tapeworms.
Really no one can tell you how much it will cost as the charges vary from vet to vet & area to area. The vet will also do a fecal to see if she has any internal parasites that could harm her.
Are you sure she hasn't had any shots yet?

well i dont know about the shots but as for the other stuff she is probably having seperation anxiety. try finding a little blanket or bed and put a heating pad in it then a towel underneath it to represent her mother's warmth. then find a bunch of little stuffed animals and put them in there to represent her litter mates. make sure that the stuffed animals r about her size. this really helped my dog cope with not being with his mother and brother and sisters

i just got a boston terrier a month ago.. went to vet the next day and he gave her the 8 week go around on shots, just in case. we didn't want to take any chances.
the shots should be around $38, not including what else he might find.
she is just missing her littermates... make sure she feels secure with you. and give her a plush toy to sleep with... this always helps my newcomers.

the price of shots change from place to place the best deals are from shot clinics that some vet clinics hold which make the prices cheaper. if you don't know if she had shots and can't get ahold of the guy to ask then i would suggest getting her the shots anyway it won't hurt her if she did already get them

She is probably afraid right now! Try giving a piece of your clothes to lay on. It may comfort her enough to keep her from crying!
