He either must have something wrong with him or maybe this is how they all are, but when he goes pee he pees on his front leg because his stream is so long. Well this gets old really quick, what I mean is bringing him inside and cleaning his right front paw before he can run around the house. Try doing this 5 times a day. Anyway so when I take him outside I hold his ....area....pointing down so it doesnt get on him. I can just imagine what the people walking around are thinking....but what else should I do??? ok try to stop laughing enough to type a good answer....=-)

lol sorry I HAD to laugh but it sounds like he is young.. when he gets older and starts to lift his leg, he should miss peeing on his paw... There isnt anything wrong with him he is just unaware of his bad aim..
PS neutering him will not affect his aim!! LMAO

Ugh. I feel your pain.
I once had a tall collie cross that did the same thing... except his stream was so long that he often squirted urine on his face, not just his front legs, and sometimes turned his face around and lapped it as it came out... LOL. I swear this is true.
So, what am I supposed to answer?
Yes, it's weird,
No, there's nothing wrong with your dog,
Yes, people laugh when they see this,
Yes, other dogs do this, but not many,
and, for this I am really sorry, but,
No, I never found a way to curb this.

Take a Bounty paper towel with you. Hold it in front of his stream, with a hand on either side of him [ as if you were trying to be modest ]. They are pretty absorbent, and should deflect the stream downward, and protect his front legs.
Don't forget to bag the towel, and DON"T flush it.

LOL I wish I had a really good answer for you but maybe he needs to be trimmed in his under belly. This may divert the angle of his flow away from his front leg. Other than that I have no clue. LOL
Thanks for the chuckle!

No it is not weird,, funny yes,, if you are not the one dealing with it,, but not weird..
He may still learn to lift his leg,, that behavior is independent of hormones, some never do.. some learn later on in life..
Lifting of the leg is one behavior, but it is the instinct to pee on everything in sight because of hormonal drives that neutering prevents.. Ironically marking behavior is also seen in females,, they generally do not leg lift (although some actually do) but also feel the need to mark their area because of the hormones.. and do not if spayed..
unfortunally some dogs have very poor habits,, some will poop and not care and dance in it, some do not care where the urine goes,, it is often seen in dogs raised in conditions that did not allow them to develop the natural distase for such actions,, like pet store dogs, puppies raised inside in a pen, and such.. it is not a natural behavior for dogs to not mind urine and feces on themselves or their den,, although some lines of dogs this is a problem..
I would suggest, having his coat trimmed short for now,, give him some time to hopefully learn to aim.. It is possible his anatomy is such that is very difficult to not pee on himself unless he lifts his leg.. It is also possible he could have a problem with his rear legs (patella problems?) that make it very hard for him to lift his leg,, you might want to discuss this possiblity with your vet..
you can train him to lift..Try to encourage leg lifting outside of course.. by visiting dog parks, and area that other dogs may have used, fence post, the instinct and behavior can be incouraged.. and trained,, make sure you use a command to do so to make the dog understand that is what he is allowed to do there,, not everywhere..
A good percentage of boys do not learn to leg lift till around a year of age.. BTW..
Reguardless if you incourage him to learn to leg lift,,on command in approperate areas.. should not teach him to start marking everything because he is neutered and you will contiue to be consitant in the house rules...
But he might not care that he is getting himself wet,, and just really have poor aim..
Hope this helps..

Wow, that is unusual. It has me baffled. Usually dogs do not like to get wet when they are peeing. I don't think there is an answer, sorry.
