I will be traveling from Guatemala City down to Panama City starting in January and I have a friend on Grand Turk Island. How can I go visit him? I would like to avoid flying if possible and spend less than two days traveling each way from the main land.

The cheapest way would be to hitch a ride at the end of the Panama Canal. Lots of small boats take on temporary crew to transit the canal. That transit of the canal will give you enough time to decide if you want to hitch a ride with them or not. 2 days won't be enough time to get to the Turks and Caicos, though.

If you are planning to travel to Grand Turk Island, you will need to purchase a boat ticket, you will find it near Puerto Rico.
