It is your yard, your kids, so yes...it is okay.
You said yourself that they know not to do it on a normal basis. It is the same like every parent who has stopped on that long road trip when a kid had to pay a visit to the bushes.

You have every right to ask your babysitter to ensure that your daughter doesn't watch anyone urinate outside, and that she ensures that your son urinates in a bathroom. This all depends on circumstance, of course. If you're camping in the middle of the forest, then it's reasonable provided the urinator is shielded via trees, a boulder, etc. If this is in the parking lot of WalMart, there's no justification. However, it sounds like you've had this sitter for years. I think you have to consider the trade here - how important is this to you, versus the possible loss of a sitter if she gets upset with your complaint. Consider what your backup plan would be if your sitter were to (in the worst case) quit - do you have another sitter you could switch to? It all comes down to how important this issue is to you. I suspect that it's pretty important, since you've posted the question here!

My family used to make my little brother (2-4 years old at the time) go outside to pee if the toilet was being used. He had no problem doing behind a tree in the middle of suburbia. He's now 16 and has no desire to pee outside, that includes him being on long car trips (he'll wait for a truck stop 3 hours away).

I think its just a matter of letting your kids know that as they grow older it is preferable that they use the toilet. Unless circumstances such as being on a big piece of land with the toilet a long way away allows them to use a tree.

I make 2 suggestions:
Make sure they all go before you go out of doors. Let them know this is for extenuating curcumstamces only. Leave the TP at home, and just carry a packet of tissues in your pocket. If they learn to do #2 outside, they may actually hold it until you go outdoors because it's more fun.

Maybe consider putting up a couple of outhouses on your property. There's nothing really wrong with allowing them to relieve themselves outside, especially if you're out on the "back 20 acres" of your lot, but I wouldn't necessarily encourage the behavior.
Yes, it is perfectly natural. My family loves to camp primitive, and nothing like going pooh outside with a view of a dozen 14,000ft peaks (as opposed to a Parenting magazine)! But just be certain that they know this is not to be normal behavior-- only if they "really gotta go"...

I grew up on a farm and that's just a fact of life in the country. Make sure you dig a hole for #2 and cover it up so that you don't attract anything you don't want to. Also be careful of the poison ivy. Not cool at all.

You might want to have a conversation with your kids, if you feel it necessary, about when it's appropriate to "go" outside and when it isn't. Otherwise, the next time you're at a little league game...

I feel that if you let your boys pee outside in the country they will eventually do so at home when you least expect it and cause you great embarrassment. They will at some time or another have to go and think nothing of going behind a bush in the city because they really don't know any better. Remember they are innocent.

No.........I live in the country myself. I have a few acres of land and would never disrespect the land by peeing on it.
You need to teach your children to go b/4 they go outside.
Why are you going far away from the house? Once they have to treck all the way back to the house to p, they will remember to go........You are not teaching them to respect things .
I disagree with your handling the situation. I mean b/4 one pees their pants on accident is one thing, but to let them think it is ok to use that as an excuse all the time is wrong...sorry.
you carry tp? what is that ? I am missing something...

What you're doing sounds fine to me. You're on your own property. Just so they know it's not acceptable to do the same in a city park, and just so they know to practice proper cleanup hygiene after bathroom activities carried out while they're hiking in a public wilderness area or with permission on someone else's land, no problem.

Mom first a good practice is before you go out -let em take turns in the bathroom-anounce "We are going out in ___minutes bathroom call"- if a problem outside --make sure there is good tree coverage-and if your daughter is still learning bring a portable potty for her-dont let them do #2 unless you got a hole dug out that you can cover with dirt when finished-human waste is very toxic and can get onto shoes and attracts flys.

I suggest you read some bible with them too=believing and receiving truth=Shalom in the prince of peace Isaiah 9:6 "Unto us a child is born, a son is given, and he will be almighty God and the prince of peace." I got inner peace in the Messiah my best friend Isaiah 52:13-53:12 promised first to "He will lay down his life to make atonement for our sins." Pray for truth and share, to keep the soul clean of toxins.
in Jesus amazing grace that saved me=John 3 repented of sin and born again, to see the kingdom of heaven.

have a safe summer and fun

When you got to go, you got to go!!!! lÖl
It´s your land let them do it. It´s natural! Just make sure they make a hole for # twos and cover it afterwords. I used to go hiking all the time so my kids are used to taking a squat :P
