I can't answer for all of us that do it, but I do it to separate my beliefs from what I see as the hypocrisy and indoctrination of the Church, but that is my opinion.

Religion anymore is, in my mind, organized brainwashing. If I don't "believe" in the exact manner as one of the "faithful" church-goers, I am Satan-Incarnate (Yes, I have actually been called this many times by some enlightened ones who really do believe I am Satan in the flesh. Shucks- I haven't even received my secret, majik, decoder ring yet to decrypt all those secret, satanic messages that I'm sending to myself from God only knows where!!!!). But if I believe exactly as they do, I'm more "acceptable". Then my wings are made out of gold. I guess actually "understanding" who and why you believe in aren't components of an informed believer and servant of the MOst High.

I think it's because anything can be called a religion. I think of religion as man's way to worship whatever(God, gods, idols, self, an organization, etc.) God is specific about how He is to be worshiped and because it comes from Him, I think of it more as faith in Him.
As far as being organized, would you want us unorganized? God is the creator of order, and Satan disorder. Look at all the instructions in the Old Testament God gives to put order in all they do. He gets very specific about how they worship, behave in the temple, take care of the temple, provide for the temple, priests, etc.

This is what I know to be true..
Religion is a set of rules plain and simple, rules that are meant to control the masses.
On the other hand..faith is just that, faith: putting your beliefs into something you can not see, feel or touch. Christianity is the belief that Jesus was the son of God and that he died for our sins...no religion is needed to have faith...no faith is needed to have religion.
Does this make since ?

I've heard quite a few claim "it's not a religion, it's a personal relationship with God!"
This never made sense to me. A "relationship" is supposed to be two-way. I have yet to hear anyone who is not schizophrenic claim that they heard God's voice talking to them.
It's a religion. Get over it.

They're trying hard to distance themselves from all religions, but that won't work. They belong to the 'religion club'.

they are told that thier faith is a relation with a living group of 3 gods or a trinity
the pagans worship dead gods and follow dead faiths and worship blindly against common sense
however, it takes blindness to be a christian and see the attrocities done by it's teachings and the division it's caused worldwide against humanity

religion is man's attempt at getting to God. True Christianity, believer's acknowdedge that they can do nothing to get to God because he already did all the work on the cross, when he died for our sins. Christians don't follow a set of rules, we follow Jesus.
