Ya the deep fryer works best... Just cut the raw potatoes into strips and drop them into the hot oil about 425deg. F. Once they float to the top of the oil they are done....

French Fries are normally made in a deep fryer by cutting them into slices of your choice. The thicker the cut the longer it takes. Also if you put a potato into a deep fryer with out cutting it up you will come out with nothing. Although cooking in a frying pan will work but it will take longer.

Hi Dana,

American fries are usually made with potatoes & onions, salt, pepper & spices & fried in a pan. Also cut every which way on the sides of the potato. But I answered the deep fryer thing in a different answer. Have a good day. :0)
P.S. yes American, Minnesota,USA

Deep fryer works best. Fry small batches at a time to avoid lowering the temperature of the oil. Also, make sure potatoes are dry to avoid oil splatter.

It's tough to imitate the taste of McDonald's Fries (they add flavouring...)

Either way is fine, but it depends onto how fast you want the American fries yourself. Deep fryer is faster, but the pan is healthier.

The deep fryer will cook them evenly due to the fat surrounding the potatoes. Just be sure to use a "mealy" potato, such as a baker or Russet. However the debate goes on the best method to cook them...Have fun.
