She's been eating homemade food for about a month or so now.. before she wasn't so gassy, and she was eating Dick Van Patten's Eatables. Now she eats plain chicken or plain beef, sometimes mixed with veggies and potato, and a Pet Tab (dog vitamin). What the heck?! Lol. She farts ALL the time, even if she doesn't have to poo. She's a 2 year old Bichon Poo, by the way.

Hi.. yes, I realize it's her food. I'm saying what could I change about that. And no, I'm not giving her commercial dog food anymore. She got very sick after the whole Nutro thing, and THEN once the Natural Balance (which is basically the same co. as Eatables) foods got recalled, I said enough is enough. In many many MANY countries that don't rely so heavily on processed and commercian foods, dogs only eat homemade food. There IS no dog food, and their dogs are healthy and happy (I come from one of those countries, so I've seen it and heard it forever). Wake up, guys! A huge part of it is a lie, the commercial dog food business (and it IS a business). There are a FEW companies that are healthier and more wholesome, but I'm not taking any more chances. 2 close calls is enough for me, thanks. I've spent hundreds of dollars on vet bills after my dog got sick, not to mention the pain of seeing her that way. What if tomorrow they recall Pedigree or Eatables? It's happened before

I'm glad the answers before haven't scared you into feeding kibble again! I feed my small dog homecooked, as well, and it has been the best thing I've ever done. However, as with anything else, you must do it properly. Try to reassess what and how much you are feeding. I rarely use potato, and I've heard that it can make dogs gassy. In fact, I've been told that dogs generally tend to become gassy primarily because of maldigestion of poly/oligosaccharides (carbs and beans).

I would use a sort of elimination diet to figure out what is the problem food. Take out the potatoes for a couple days and see how she does. If the gas decreases, introduce a different grain. If that doesn't help any, take out the veggies. And to help your pup's digestion, make it a habit to add in a spoonful of plain yogurt to her meals. Also, it could very well be the multi-vitamin that's making her gassy since a lot of vitamins add in extras to make it more palatible and to increase its shelf life. For what it's worth, my pup gets a spoonful of Missing Link with his homecooked meal. Hope that helps!

You just answered your own question. Its homemade food. Human food isn't good for dogs no matter what anybody says. Put him back on dog food. Dick Van Patten is a good one.

The girl that feeds walmart brand above "Kit Kat", you might as well go get a plunger and pull up all the crap out of your toilet, thats what you'd be feeding basically.

First it's prbably the food. Also I have had several poodles and they seem to be a very gassy breed. I would suggest yo talk to you vet but they need more that just meat.
I feed OL Roy dog food from Wal-Marts and I have no problem my poodle basically passes gas when i give her table scraps.

Check with your vet, but home made food is no necessarily better for your dog. Obviously, something is not agreeing with her.

It's what you're feeding her. It could be the vegetables or all the meat giving her the gas.
