Nope not at all. When you start a new job they get a photo copy of your DL & your SS card.

When you are looking for an apartment they make a copy of your DL and keep in the office....That is for safety reasons so that no one is kidnapped etc. If the person showing the apt. doesn't return there is a copy of the DL in the office.

RE:
Is it against the law to photocopy a driver's license?

It is NOT against the law in ANY state to make a photocopy of a driver's license. Employers usually keep one on file for all of their employees. It IS illegal to make a replica (something made to look realistic) of a driver's license (it is fraud).

I want to ask those who said a COLOR copy is illegal to cite an actual law. Kinko's 'flipping out' is NOT a legal source. That is even less reliable than some of the bad answers here on Yahoo? Whoever gave the list of items they claim can't be legally copied: I have the same question for you. What is your source?

Using the copy for fraudulent purposes is, naturally, illegal. I know of no law prohibiting the actual copy.

This is a moot question if you don't "drive" in your car but rather travel in your car. You are not required to have a drivers license to travel freely in this country and use public thoroughfares. See link below and ignore the pro police state ignorance regurgitators who say I am wrong. The law is the law. If pro police people say the court rulings were overturned then demand they cite the ruling because none exist and they know it ! 90% of police would have nothing to do if they couldn't enforce traffic codes on the people. It is knee jerk for them to disagree with laws that take away their power.

No, as long as you are not trying to break the law. Unless you try to alter the information (birth date), laminate it and try to pass it off as the real deal you should be okay with photocopying your license. I copy employees when there is the need and I believe my bank has a copy of mine. You cannot however use a photocopy as I.D. because it is not a VALID form of I.D.

No, everytime you go for a job interview the company will most likely photo copy your license and SS card for there I-9 paper work. Although I wouldn't try handing a photo copied licencse to a police officer or bartender.
