I hate to say this, but unless you do take your dog to the vet it will die. I'm not being mean or try to be hurtful. It's a fact. Even with treatment it's not 100% sur it can be saved, but without it I can tell you for sure it's 100% certain to die. Parvo is deadly. They don;t just get better.

Maybe you can call around vets and see if you can find one that will take payments. If there is none to at least save your little ones life you should surrender it to a humane society. At least then it will have a chance to live.

I'm so very sorry.

Dehydration is one of the ways they die, but the other is infection and they need antibiotics. Parvo causes the lining of the intestines to shed, and bacteria that are normally harmless become deadly.

The three main things a parvo dogs needs are:

1. LOTS of fluids. Pedialyte (in the baby section of the grocery store) is best. Gatorade is OK, but it's flavored and the smell might make the dog feel even more nauseous. You know how the scent of food can make you feel even worse when you're feeling sick? It's the same for a dog. The best way to give fluids is IV or SubQ because they can't vomit them up. If you're treating at home, however, your only option is orally. If you giving fluids orally, you should try to get at least some fluid into your puppy every 1-2 hours.

2. Antibiotics. Your puppy's natural defense, the lining of his intestines, is gone. If you can't get them from the vet, try to see if there's a feed store you can purchase them at. Again, it's not the best thing to do it yourself, but no antibiotics usually equals death. An anti viral is also recommended, but those can be expensive and I've seen plenty of dogs treated successfully without them.

3. Medication to help keep the puppy from vomiting. Reglan is what we usually use. Ideally, a parvo puppy is treated with injectables. If that's not possible, the puppy needs something to help him keep his oral medication down. Giving him fluids and antibiotics will not help him if they get vomited back up.

Hi,
The truth is that your dog will die without treatment. Parvo kills. It can't be treated at home. Dogs need IV fluids because their bodies cannot take fluid by the stomach even if it is pedialyte or gatoraid. Parvo is a horrible, deadly virus.

I know you are trying to help this dog you found. This might not be a pet for you and you might have to choose to surrender it just to save it's life. It might already be too late to save it. You did a good deed by rescuing it from the road. Now do another one and give it to somebody that can afford the $2000 to treat it. Because it will die without treatment. Perhaps God put this dog in front of you so you could help it, you could become its hero, but not be its master. You don't want to watch it die.

There is still a dog out there for you somewhere. And you have learned a lesson. When you get your dog, spend the money for a parvo shot even if you order it online instead of going to a vet. They only cost about $10. And they will save thousands in treatments for the disease.

I'm sorry the dog is so ill.

I do know you have to disinfect EVEYTHING. Bleach your yard, car tires, everything. If he makes it it is still there in your home and it can be passed to other dogs. If by some chance he doesn't make it DO NOT bring another dog in to or around the house for 6 months. The parvo virus is very hard to kill and get rid of. Any idea how old he is? And I do know the treatments are alot but is there a way they may make payment arrangements with you based on your income? You can always look Parvo up on the comp and see if you can find other things you need and should do for him. I know that this might not be much help....sorry. Good luck.

I don't know of many pups that have survived with parvo without going to the vets.
The main thing is keeping him hydrated. The main thing is that they may also loose a lot of nutriton from not eating. I would try to see if you can work something out with the vet.
it's really a miracle if they survive and they often end up with other problems from what the bachteria does to the intesitines.
I'm sorry I'm not trying to be one of the ******** you've mentioned I'm just telling you what I know form working in vets offices for over 30 years.

I am sorry about your financial situation, but I commend you for trying to do something. What works even better than Gatorade is Pedialyte. Keep him in a small room like a bathroom or washroom, because it's gonna get messy. Give him a basket with towels in it, and clean it out whenever he vomits or has diarrhea. Put the soiled towels in a garbage bag, and keep everything clean with bleach. Wash the towels separate from everything and keep giving him Pedialyte. And yes, some pups have a chance of surviving without going to the vet. Stay by his side as much as possible, and I will be cheering for you!

READ MINE FIRST IT"S VERY VERY IMPORTANT! My mom grew up with dogs and they didn't even go to the vet for shots then there wasn't any shot let alone a vet the best thing you can do is get a small or regular drinking bottle of water and wrap your dog in a blanket like a baby...hold the dog like a baby take the water bottle and stick it in his mouth then give him water this will help him and also is quality time your spending with your dog ( make sure he gets out to go to the bathroom!) But giving your dog gatorade will just make it worse because gatorade has sugar and chemicles that dogs shouldn't have.....also for his food ... if your giving him soft food make sure it doesn't have poisining in it before you buy it ...the best thing to do is to pour water over hard puppy food and give it to him when you pour water on it it dissolves into a nice soft food for your dog instead of it dissolving in your dogs stomach it will just be food to help.

I'm not sure what to do. Call a vet ask what to do. Look parvo up online. Talk to people used dogs have recovered without vet care. I do know my husbands family has always fed their sick dogs chicken noodle. I laughed but one of mine got out and came back sick, it worked.

Ultimately If you can afford to get the dog well, then you need to gove the dog up.. its not fair that the dog should be left to suffer because your not responsible enough to give the animal what it needs...I just returned fro my annual checkup and it cost me nearly 5 hundred dollars all said an done.. Imagine if you were ill and medical doctors wouldn't help you...And dont even start thinking **** causeyouknow I Am right.... 1) Call a vet and tell them you puppy with parvo that YOU cant afford to have treated 2) contact the ASPCA and find out if They can help you, before you infect any other animals, with your Crap.... or give the dog up to someone who can.. do the right thing..

Give the puppy water, gatoraid doesn't help as much as people think. Also contact a dog breeder, chances are that he or she will be caring enough to help you for free, just being a good person. Take a dropper or turkey baster if the dog isn't drinking by itself.

But I am sorry but it's slim that he will live.

The disease if highly infectious so don't let him or his waste near other dogs or cats.
