Hey. This one is long but i really need help. My mom just quit smoking and then her mom came to visit us...but she smokes. So my mom started smoking again. My dad does nothing but put her down about how she's smoking. And i it!!! Everytime i try to stand up for her m dad just yells at me and says that i need to "respect" him. Well..it's not fair that i have to show im respect when he shows me nothing. And latley...the only time he's nice to me is after my mom gives him the "eye" after he made me cry. (he makes me cry almost everyday) He just keeps putting down me and my mom. WHAT IN THE WORLD SHOULD I DO!?!?

Talk in a calm voice when you are standing up for your mom if he starts yelling keep being calm and ask him to please discuss this in a calm manner.Say that you see it from his point of view but that you should support your mom to stop not put her down about it. He is most likely yelling because he feels the need to shield himself from both of you being on a different side as him try to see it from his point of view as well and discuss it calmly with him how you feel. This worked with my father I hope it helps with yours :)

Not sure if the whole dad trouble thing is an overreaction on your part (looks like it may be), but you need to understand the mechanics of this. Your dad is giving her "tough love" by encouaraging her to stop smoking so she has more time to grow up with you guys.

Sometimes the means justify the ends, since i doubt asking her politely to stop smoking is going to work. If he is still acting that way then perhaps you have more of a problem then first thought.

although standing up for your mom is a good thing... she really should quit smoking. if you think about it... if one of my parents smoked i would be very blunt and trying everything i possibly could to make them quit. but also being rude is bad too. i would help her quit so that you avoid the situation... really that is the way he thinks that she will stop by.

i hope that helps!

Smoking sucks. Stop dissing your dad, as long as he doesn't hurt your mom, what's the problem? Smoking is bad! Try supporting your DAD for a change, HE has your mothers best interest at heart, not her mother, apparently. Do you want your mom to get lung cancer and die? it's a TERRIBLE death, believe me. Plus YOU and your dad can get it to thanks to second hand smoke.

Idk. My dad is kinda the same way, except its the other way around.
Act like it doesnt bother you. I'm not saying hes doing it on purpose just to make you mad, but kinda ignore it.
I'm sure that'll help.
=]
Good Luck with everything.
