"In the hood" is an abbreviation for "In the neighborhood." It generally refers to the parts of towns said rapper has come from. When you "hang in the hood," the rapper is stating that the individual is spending time at the place they call home. Saying it is "all good in the hood" means that their home neighborhood is doing alright.

"In The Hood" just means being in the neighborhood. It generally means your neighborhood though. Also, a hood will usually be all of the same ethnics.

hood is short for neighborhood, but the hood refers to what would also be called the ghetto. doesn't necessarily have to be black or any particular ethnic group, just refers to a lower income neighborhood usually with higher crime rates.

usually referring to a poor or "bad" part of town..
but its not necessarily about the predominant color of each neighborhood.
