I'll help you for free since I love talking about nutrition and dieting. Lemme ask you this though- what does your diet routine consist of? A lot of people have trouble sticking to their diet because they are too hard on themselves or their diet is too strict. What are your goals? Be sure that when you set a goal that it is realistic and that you will be able to reach it. Start out small and work your way up.

It has been proven that people who keep a record of their daily food intake are more likely to stick to their diet than those who don't keep track of what they eat. This is important because when you write down what you eat, how much you ate, and most importantly the calories you consume, you can see exactly how you are doing. It can help you identify where you need improvement. Trust me- this helps so much! The first couple times I tried to diet, I failed not only because I didn't know about nutrition then but also because I didn't keep a record of what I was eating. Later on, Bally's gave me computer software to help me track my food intake (if you can't get a program like this, writing you calories on paper is fine too), as well as a book to educate myself about managing my weight and everything else nutrition. It helped me stick to my diet for two months and I lost 20 pounds from it. Every night, I'd plan out (on my computer) my meals and snacks (yes you can have snacks when you diet...it's actually important. I'll explain later) for the next day. This included tracking what types of food I was eating, how much, the calories it contained, carbs, fat, and protein, etc. Since I know probably don't have a program to do this, just write down what you plan to eat, how much, and the calories it has in it. It will be sufficient enough. Calorie counting is crucial to weight loss (or weight gain).

It's really effective if you eat 3 small (but not tiny to the point of starving) meals and a snack between each meal. So, that's 3 snacks and the technical definition of a snack is 100-200 calories. If you go over that, you're almost eating what's considered a meal. When I dieted, my meals were approx. 300-400 calories each. This works because when you eat small portions throughout the entire day, it helps speed up your metabolism (so you burn more calories, leading to weight loss), and you won't feel so hungry since you're eating a little bit every three hours instead of every 5 or 6 hours. When I did this, I remember I'd usually start to get a little hungry (but not starving) right around when it was time to eat anyway, so it worked out perfectly. Some people say they don't have time to eat but if it's something you really want, you will make time for it one way or another. So, not having time is not an excuse.

Do you have a hard time sticking to your diet because there's a lot of junk food around the house or is it just because you get hungry? If it's because of the junk food, try to limit yourself on what you buy. You don't have to eliminate junk food from your house completely. Just make wise decisions and think about how it will affect you later one. If you're gonna diet, it's ok to eat one (key word is ONE) serving (a serving is the amount that's stated on the nutrition facts) of junk food a week or once every two weeks. Think of it as a reward for your hard work. If you deprive yourself of junk food completely, then you'll just continue to have a craving and you'll be more likely to eat large amounts of it when you get a hold of it...that can lead you to quitting your diet. My nutrition professor (who's a registered dietician) likes to call junk food "fun food" because it's supposed to be fun to eat and when you eat too much of it all the time, it's not fun anymore. It's true because if you don't eat it very often and then you finally get a chance to have a little bit, you enjoy it a lot more. I know I enjoyed it a lot more when I dieted. If you're getting hungry a lot, maybe you should reevaluate what types of foods you're eating. Are they high in fat? Fat is a concentrated form of energy (calories) meaning that there's a lot of calories in fat for just a small amount of it. One gram of fat contains 9 calories, while carbs and protein only contain 4 calories per gram. So, you can eat a half a cup of junk food (with lots of fat) for 140 calories or a half a cup of oatmeal for the same amount of calories. Which one do you think will hold you over longer til the next meal time? It's gonna be the oatmeal because it will take up more room in your stomach than the fattening junk. Oatmeal is a whole grain (which is fiber). High fiber foods are great because they not only are good for your digestive system but they also are generally lower in calories and they keep you full longer without having to eat a lot of it. This is because fluids make fiber swell up, taking up more room in your stomach, so you feel full. If you eat a lot of high fiber foods, just be sure to drink plenty of fluids with it so it can pass through your system easily. You can find fiber in fruits, vegetables, whole grains (such as oatmeal, popcorn, raisin bran cereal, whole grain bread, etc), and beans. I HAVE THE ANSWER FOR YOU, & IT'S REAL SIMPLE. DRINK 2 8OZ GLASSES OF WATER BEFORE YOU EAT, & THEN 2 MORE WHEN YOU GET DONE. THE WATER MAKES YOUR STOMACH "THINK" YOU ARE FULL, & YOU WON'T HAVE TO EAT TOO MUCH! GOOD LUCK!!
