No, not if you are a believer. Gutenberg just mass-produced what the Church maintained by hand. Gutenberg gave us the movable type printing press, not the bible. People do not have to have a bible or even be able to read for that matter, which is why they went to church in the first place, before the advent of the printing press, to hear the word before there were literate people in the general population. A better question is what happened to the people before there were churches???

To seriously answer this question.

There were Bibles, and before the Bibles, were the groups of the Books, some of which were used to make the Bible.

Now, these things were hand made and copied. This meant expensive, so a church would only have one Bible, or some of the books...The priest would read them aloud at the services (also, since few could read, didn't matter that the books were expensive)

The Bible is a tool or guide for us christians to understand the purpose of GODs creation. The Bible per see, is only a paper but what was written had been heard and spoken by GOD and the prophets. If we allow GOD to enter into our hearts, then what we read must be understood and be practiced then hopefully heaven will be not to far after death.

Don't forget about oral tradition. For many centuries the contents of the Bible were transmitted to the faithful by word of mouth. This is one of the reasons we get together every Sunday to celebrate the Word of God. Once the printing press was developed people could own their own copy, but before that scripture was passed from bishops to monks and priests and then to the people.

before Guttenberg, the Bible was there, in handwritten form... there was papyrus, animals skins and handwritten books. Many people got the message of the Bible by others that had or knew how to read.

God's WORD is needed to be able to know what God has said and not knowing God's plan will keep you out of heaven.
There have been "letters" and the "writings" long before Bibles were printed. Scribes and letter copiers.., hand copied by the Essenes, made all that was necessary.

the bible was introduced in Latin a then secret language so that no human could reason it... it was there to prevent the challenge of the Catholic Church... most things would have been disputed or proven lies back then but Roman Catholic practiced plan B murder anyone who sought to dispute it's reasoning... the exposure of the bible was a violent one... catholics are not expect to read the bible the church prefers them ignorant... the less you know the less you argue... God Religion it's all a power play a greater deception will never be know to man.... they have no heaven to offer... they promise it because no one can tell after you are dead no one can complain that they don't deliver that is why it's done... control of the human race is what they've always and only been after..

The Holy Bible is the Do-it-yourself book relating to Christians. Considering the christian faith is one of the smaller religions; I don't think God in his wisdom would deny other faiths the opportunity, to dwell in heaven. My own belief follows the idea that Karma decides where I will go when I die.Karma-the law of action and reaction, requires one to assess their lives, and try to be as gracious and civil to all people.God granted us free will. So Karmic action relates to how we use our free will. Don't let stale doctrine and falsehoods lead you to the conclusion you won't get into heaven.Even Jesus said you can only get in to heaven through the narrow gate. That means even some christians won't get in.Remember-Actions speak louder than words. Go in God's Light and Love!

Does every baby need a mother? Yes you need the bible. This is how God talks to us. If you can't read, then you listen to tapes. There needs to be a personal relationship and without the word of God, I don't believe this is going to happen. "So then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God"

Remember how they were read the law from the scroll. God has always communicated with those that wanted to do right. And those that wanted to do right have always listen to God

No.

The Catholic Church believes that those who die never hearing of Christ but have sought the truth and does the will of God as they understand it can be saved.

This is based on Romans chapter 3:

For it is not those who hear the law who are just in the sight of God; rather, those who observe the law will be justified. For when the Gentiles who do not have the law by nature observe the prescriptions of the law, they are a law for themselves even though they do not have the law.

They show that the demands of the law are written in their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even defend them on the day when, according to my gospel, God will judge people's hidden works through Christ Jesus. (Romans 3:13-16)

With love in Christ.
