Unfortunately the bible is not for the feignt of heart or for Children. When passion of the Christ was made, people saw how violent the good parts are, imagine if Gibson had have delved into the OT for material. THere would have been a public outcry.

Try picking up a good news bible , it probably has the best interpretation for a child , However it really doesn't change any of the stories , but like any TV show or book with a mature rating , parents should be monitoring what their kids are doing and explain things they don't understand properly.

bibles were almost removed from schools when evangelicals went after atheist or other books with language issues, adult content or slanderous names and violence

pretty dang embarrassing when your religion is based on bigotry and considered not fit for public schools, yet is the source of moral authority and has young women being raped, etc

That's what Sunday School is for -- the instructors present cleaned up versions. Then you get older and learn the REAL stories (which are still fiction, but still they get mean).

I'm glad I survived those days.
