No..the only thing you can get would be an ILP #..this is NOT an AKC registration..it is simply a number issued to your dog that allows you to compete in AKC performance events such as obedience, rally, etc..in order to get an ILP you need to neuter your dog and send proof from your vet that the dog has been neutered.

I can't imagine a shelter/pound/rescue that would adopt out an intact male or at least make you sign a contract stating you would need to get it done within a certain time period.

No, now that the lab has visited the pound and an owner has not contacted them, the papers are lost. You need to know the owner, which isn't likely, you need to know the parents of the dog, and you need the papers of the registered litter, but you can nueter him and enter him into the AKC's, ILP list. This allows you to enter into AKC events.

You can apply for a ILP slip& number from AKC. Go to their web site and see what you will have to do. This means you can do only certain things with the dog. You cant register a litter from him but you can participate in most AKC events.

Not unless you know his lines (who both mom and dad are). The AKC does offer a different paper - one for dogs whose lines you don't know so that you can do agility competitions with them. Why does the dog need papers? It's just for show competitions. Pounds only give you so long to get the dog neutered anyway. He can still do the agility competitions neutered or now, so why not just neuter him. (I assume that's what you mean by "true male". They are no less male when they are neutered - just can't get testicular cancer).

No, you need to know who his parents are. What you can get is an ILP number from AKC. Contact AKC http://www.akc.org
Congrats on your new guy. Good luck;^)

no you can not get papers unless the parnets are known. the only reg you can get with AKC is a I L P reg which the dog has to be neutered.

I'm surprised the pound is adopting out intact "fullbread" dogs of any breed.

No the only way is to have parents names and numbers but you can CKC the dog with pictures.
How by the way can you prove it's a purebred??
I'm not trying to be mean but that's what AKC will say. they are just out for money anyways I don't like AKC
