What is a good, fast, and easy way to raise up money for recycling bins at school. I was thinking about asking the principle if we could do some sort of relay for life kinda' thingie except it would be funding for recycling bins. i'm pretty sure kids would do it because it would look good on their application for college(community service). Help!?!?! By the way, I'm in high school if you haven't already guessed. =] thanks in advanced!!

You could make a kind of yard sale !!!
Ask kids to bring old stuff that they don't want anymore, and make like this huuuge garage sale !
If there's a business class in your school, you can ask them to make some advertising ! Ask your cooking class to bake some pastries and make refreshments that you can sell at the same time !

That way, you can get rig of your old junk and make money too! If your school is really dedicated, you can even throw in some car washes ! LOL

You can also give a ticket with a number to anybody that buys anything, and you can have like a raffle for an item of the yard sale !

Or, if this is too much and you don't have a lot of time, just stick with a regular yard sale ;)

Start out with recycling bags. Show up at events like football games or plays and collect all those aluminum cans. When you go to turn them in, ask the recycling center if they will sponsor you. They will usually be happy to give you some barrels, especially if you will allow them to put their logo on the barrels, or if you put their name in programs for plays and concerts and such. The big problem with recycling, is that it can get messy. You have to be willing to clean up around the site every few days, and you might even have to monitor the site if you have "playful" students. You want to stick to products that bring in some revenue, which is why I brought up those aluminum cans. Paper and plastic are more or less loss leaders. In some areas they actually cost more to recycle than you can make. If you can get people to donate electronic devices, especially old cell phones that you can turn in to battered women's shelters, you can definitely do some good there. If you are in a state like California or New York, where they have a return deposit on plastic bottles, then the return is much higher, but aluminum is always money in the bank.

you could have 'recycle pick-up' at your school, when the school is out for the day, have a couple of kids with trash bags and go around school collecting paper from all the teachers class rooms, tell the teachers to have a cardboard box for you. say it over the announcements.its not making money, but its saving the paper from going in the trash bins.then dump the paper in the huge recylcing bins. do this atleast once a week.

Start by recycling old print cartridges. There are a variety of companies out there that pay for used ink cartridges. This should be a great way to start. You could also contact your local Home Depot or Lowe's to see if they would donate any bins.

Most counties give them for free to local businesses to encourage recycling. You may just want to bring up the subject to your principal to get his take on the whole thing- he may have a few more ideas for you.

If they arent free- maybe check with the student council because most schools have discretionary funds set aside for such things that best interest of the students.

Good luck!

get the kids involved with crafts made from recycled water bottles. tell them each to bring in plastic water bottles and have them carefully cut them up to make little animals, or models of whatever.
or
have them paint pictures of what they would like to see in the world.
hold an auction to sell the models or paintings and use the funds raised to buy recycling supplies
