It has been said that when a saint gets to heaven, he will be surprised by three things. First, he will be surprised to see many he did not think would be there. Second, he will be surprised that some are not there whom he expected to see. Third, he will be surprised that he himself is there.

Please understand I am not saying we will all be saints but that we should all strive to attain such a perfect love of Christ.

I agree that we are all called to strive to be saints.
+ First, he will be surprised to see many he did not think would be there.
I disagree. Someone striving to be a saint would think the best of everyone and not thinking he or she will go to hell.
+ Second, he will be surprised that some are not there whom he expected to see.
I agree. Someone striving to be a saint would again think the best of everyone and would be surprised when someone chose to be separated from God.
+ Third, he will be surprised that he himself is there.
I disagree. Someone striving to be a saint would know that they were not in a state of mortal sin. She (or he) would know that she did not deserve to be in heaven and would be infinitely grateful to be in heaven but should not be surprised to be there.
+ With love in Christ.

well the Bible says that ALL true christians are already saints.
A saint is a person who is HOLY, and Christians have been made HOLY by the blood sacrafice of Jesus.
Not because we are so good, but because he was so good..
I will not be surprised when I get there because I am going by the merits of someone else, Jesus. He has promised (and he cannot lie) that all who believe on him will get there.
I cannot strive to be a saint, I must recieve sainthood from HIM

The Bible shows us today that we can be sure of our salvation now.
So most Bible believing followers of Jesus won't be surprised when they arrive. You see they were trusting in Jesus, we put our faith in Him and not an organization on earth.
I suppose I'll find some people in heaven that I did not expect, and what Jesus taught in Matthew chapter 7 tells me to expect that not everyone who calls himself a Christian on earth will be there.
I expect to find just about everyone I worshipped with this morning to be in heaven with me.
And very honestly I can think of a lot of members of clergy which won't make it.

A true saint comes from within, the heart, soul and spirit.... anyone and learn and grow to be one. There's saints all around us, most people see them as people.
I know what your saying, I believe most people would make it to heaven, because of God's compassionate heart, He knows if we don't learn it all here on earth, that we can learn there in heaven:)

I believe we are supposed to sincerely try to obey God in all things and we are to pray and ask Him to help us to be obedient. When we believe in Jesus as our Savior and strive to obey God, we are promised an eternity with Him in heaven and I respectfully do not think one should be surprised.

Debora, I agree with that statement; in fact, we will not know for sure we made it until that roll call and invitation to "enter into the joy of the Lord.
The definition of a saint is found in Apocalypse 14:12: "Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus."
It is only through the faith of Jesus that the saints can keep God's commandments.
I would like you to read a historical (1893) Catholic publication that questions whether Catholics should keep God's commandments or follow church tradition.

Ahhhh, that's wonderful! Thanks to you. I do believe that we are all called to be saints. We are all equal in God's eyes, and to do anything less is to abandon the potential God has given us. The greatest limits we face in life are the ones we place upon ourselves. Love and Light.

We are not all called to be saints! It takes a special person to become a saint. We do the best we can with what God gave us!
