According to Christianity, you're eternal life or damnation is based on the works performed in a finite life of about 75 years on average. Considering 75 years is only a drop in the proverbial bucket of eternity doesn't this seem a little harsh?

You'd think God would want a larger sample size.

So if you only have 75 years, don't you think that it is wise
to put them to the best possible use? Some people don't
get anywhere near 75 years, some don't even get a chance
to breath a breath.

Life is short, live it with God and it will be rewarding. Remember
you have just a few years to decide if you want eternal life or
eternal damnation.

Choose Well

I think it's fair because..... if after if seventy five years of life still leaves you confused and undecided then you have wasted most of your time in other endeavors. That is not to imply that Christianity is the only way to go, the implication is that it is enough time to make a decision that gives you comfort and peace of mind. I don't thnk it's necessary to be a member of any religious faith to find Heaven or Nirvana or the Great Old One...I think all that is necessary is to live a good life and believe in the Master Designer. Peace to all sentient beings.

Of the people in the world born at the same time as you:

1/2 of the world's population is dead by the time you reach the age of 5
1/3 of the world's population is dead before you reach the age of 20

Where have ya been, yungun? According to Christianity your eternal life or damnation is based on:

Whether you have believed and received Christ as your Savior...............nothing else......no good works.....zip....nada....nothing but the blood of Jesus. Do what you want for 75 years....it makes no difference as far as your destiny.....you only have to trust that Jesus took your penalty for your sins to be saved..

I agree. It seems devastatingly unfair and harsh.

Interestingly early Christians, including the Gnostics, believed in a doctrine of reincarnation. Thus the process of salvation through Christ unfolded over several lifetimes. The later Gnostic Christian sect the Cathars believed the same thing.

Now, if you want to control everyone, you don't want them to believe that they have more than one life to get to Heaven, do you? If you say you've only got one go then a state of spiritual panic steps in and, as a Pope or Churchman, you can step in and say "Don't worry, I can help you out..."

Similar issue to the Western Churches' suppression of the neo-Platonic idea that God is present in and transcendent to his Creation. If God is everywhere (as Paul says) why would you need an established Church to worship him?

Because one of God's attributes is Justice, no one at the Judgment Seat will ever be able to say, "That's not fair."

The Scripture will be fulfilled, "So that you may be proved right when you speak and prevail when you judge." (Romans 3:4)
