I am in the US so I'm not sure about Canadian availability but where I'm at (Chicago suburbs) we can't get enough of them!
You can go to:
http://www.ford.ca/main/default.asp?language=en§ion=1&source=&sVehCategory=FordSUVs&model=Escape&page=mm_hybridInnovation.asp
(for info in Canada)
And since i sell & drive Fords(in the US) , I'll give you a breakdown on the Ford Hybrid Escape there.
Priced at $25,740 (FWD)
Federal tax incentive is $3000 on this model.
( This vehicle qualifies for the largest tax incentive of all the Hybrids. To find out what other vehicles qualify for you can see the chart at the IRS website )
The Battery (and all hybrid componants) is covered under the Ford Warranty for 8 years or 100,000 miles.
The cost to replace the battery (IF you would need to ) has yet to be determined. We have thousands on the road ('05, '06, '07 & '08 model years) & have been clocking hundreds of thousands of miles & the batterys are holding up quite well.
Maintenance costs on the Hybrid Escape is identicle to the non-hybrid Escape with one exception. The recommended Oil change interval for the Hybrid is ONCE A YEAR or ONCE EVERY 10, 000 miles (whichever occurs 1st)
Lastly I will tell you about fuel savings . For this I will use my own personal, real life experience. We all know that the EPA ratings that you see on a window sticker are not neccesarily accurate. So those figures are completely useless.
When comparing a non-hybrid Escape VS a Hybrid Escape I DOUBLED my Mpg.....so therefor my fuel costs were cut in half !
When comparing vehicles please don't assume that just because a vehicle is labeled "Hybrid" that it will cut your fuel costs in half. All hybrids are not created equal & some actually get pretty lousy gas mileage. There are different kinds of hybrid systems & the Ford hybrid system is classified a "Fully Hybrid" There are others that are classified as "Mild Hybrid"
For more detailed info I suggest you go to http://hybridcars.com/ There is a page at this site that shows how to maximize the Hybrid Escapes fuel economy & get 40-45 mpg !
And New York City has a fleet of them in use 24/7 since 2005. They have logged HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of hard & abusive miles on them. All with NO problems & no battery replacements.
By the way ALL Toyota Prius are imported from Japan.
All Hybrid Escapes are built in the US.
(if that makes a difference to you)

It depends on if you're going to be doing more highway or city driving. If you're going to do more highway driving, you're better off getting the I-4 engine.
The quality of the Hybrid is actually very good. It beat out all of the other hybrids except for the Toyota Prius.
As for room, I have the regular Escape and it actually offers a decent amount of room for the size of the vehicle. I was actually surprised by the amount of room that is offered by folding down the back seats. I usually pack the back full without folding down the seats when I take 2 other guys camping (and that's all of our gear)
The Hybrid should be available next year in Canada.

The Escape Hybrid version has been available in Canada since 2005 when it was first introduced. The benefits should be self-evident, at a price premium above the V6 version of the Escape, of course. For your information, there is a STANDALONE warranty above and beyond the standard 3 year/60,000 kms warranty for the Hybrid's high voltage components, for 8 years/160,000 kms. Regarding the price and availabililty, click on the link below:

It all depends on what you want out of your hybrid. Do you want to get better gas milage? Or do you want to promote a cleaner environment? If it's just for gas milage, it would be cheaper, and easier, to get a non-hybrid model. By doing this, you'd only be sacrificing a few miles to the gallon, since the hybrids are only rated at around 31MPG and the regular four-cylinders at aroune 27-29

great gas mileage but the average cost of a hybrid opposed to a regular gas counterpart is about 7000.00 dollars . that buys a lot of gas.

They don't have much space, they're pretty small actually. They don't get as good of gas mileage as the manufacturer trys to make people think. My Jeep Grand Cherokee gets better gas mileage. I know Jeeps are available in Canada, go buy a Jeep, don't buy a wannabe SUV.
