i know that digital cameras are okay for claymation but i need to know if you can actually make claymation or stopmotion on a camcorder, and if you can is it better?

stills are the best, however you may be able to run video from your camera to a computer to grab a single frame. you do not want to do this with tape. before the tape can start a recording, it has to get up-to-speed. therefore it needs 5 seconds or more of good playback before it can lay down new video. in the "old" days this could be done with full size broadcast decks and a frame accurate editing controller. this really wears down the tape because you will effectively roll over 150 passes for each frame recorded!!! Heads wear out doing this as well.

Technically you can make a stopmotion animation with a camcorder, but using a digital still camera is much easier because stopmotion is a series of still images rather than a full motion sequence that you would typically record with a camcorder.

there is not any reason to get a video digital camera for a claymation. All you prefer is a digital camera. A turn video camcorder could artwork because of the fact it could take photographs, yet you dont prefer something with video purposes. The 'video' portion of it quite is carried out on the laptop.
