Reading and studying the bible only created more confusion. None of us feels qualified to challenge almost 2000 years of christian doctrine. That is exactly what I had to do in order to learn how the Holy spirit teaches us the truth. The first thing that I had to realize is how evil the god in the o.t. is. He does not display any of the fruits of the Spirit or the attributes of God. NO not a single one. Think about that seriously. Once I accepted this fact I read The Apocryphon of John to get the true and accurate account of creation from Jesus. Be smart, reject the god of the o.t. because he is satan and not the Father of Jesus. Moses was wrong and Jesus is not a liar.

Read the bible for yourself, that's what I did, and I found that a lot of the stuff I was taught was just wrong. You're right about christian ideas with no basis in scripture. For example, 300 years after the crucifiction, Constantine changed the sabbath to Sunday in order to make it easier on the pagans to convert, since they worshipped their fake gods on Sunday. "Remember the sabbath and keep it holy" does not mean "or change it to Sunday if its more convenient". Sometimes we can't rely on our churches to tell us truth, because they don't know what the truth is. I've heard the "He rose on Sunday", and "it doesn't matter which day" excuses many times, but the bible never says either of those things. Jesus and His disciples honored the correct sabbath, so its our churches who are leading us down the wrong path there. Not the only instance, but a very glaring one. People tend to take scripture out of context, or stick it in with a completely unrelated scripture to try to make their theories work, but you can't just arbitrarily change the word of God to what you want it to say. Read it for yourself, in order, to keep it in context and you'll have a greater understanding of what it actually says.

Lay aside all the theory of what the Bible scholars have taught about what the word of G-d means, pray for wisdom and understanding and study the whole word of G-d for yourself.
If a teaching is false it will not line up with scripture.

You partly answered your own question. Like it says, "the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true."
"Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world." 1John 4:1
John goes on to say, "They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood." 1John 4:5,6

the only way we can truely know is to read the bible for ourselves. In one of Paul's letters he says that we are to be wary of false prophets and teachings, and that we have to know the word of God so that we can know what to believe. Also test the ideas and theories. There are some great teachers out there, who will get stuff from the bible, that we wouldn't, but listen to them, then pray about them, and look up the passages they have used. and see for yourself.

Look within, not without. The answrs are not in any books. The answers are in your soul. I am label less but believe we are here for a purpose and that something made it all possible. I am not arrogant enough to claim what it is. Good Journey to you.

Jesus toughed in parables so that you had to be led by the spirit to understand what he was saying, Well Jesus is God and the bible is the word of God and its the same today.
#1 you have to be led by the spirit to understand.
#2 he stands at the door and knocks, which takes us opening the door for Him to come in... The door of your mind.. That s why it says to study to show your self approved.... You cant be a casual observer and get any understanding.
