I was summoned for jury duty earlier this month. I am a full time student and am on my way to study for a few months in London, on June 7th. I had told the court, or who ever, months ago I was a full time student and still they sent notice and said that I didn't have to send in another form if I sent one in before. With all the planning and school I lost track of the summons and forgot to attend. What should I do? What will they do to me? I called them like the letter said to do and it said that I don't have a new summons date, then I checked my status and there was nothing. Then I checked my imformation and it was correct. I pressed the button that told them I am a full time student. I also left a detailed message on the message service they provide. How much trouble am I in?

Inform the court that you are attending to requirements in school and it was the reason that you missed you jury duty. You will not be meted a penalty for contempt of court if you prove that there was a valid reason for your absence.

I think it all comes down to how mad the judge is about this, and what the state laws allow him to do. I am not a lawyer, however. I'd look at the summons closely, and read ALL of it - fine print included. Then I would go to the court first thing tomorrow, and explain your case. You may be assigned jury duty right away, or you may be excused. It depends on their mood, and their need, I guess. Jury duty is a serious part of a citizen's duty, and you need to take it as such. Some people complain about it, but then some people would complain if you hung them with a new rope. Think of this as an opportunity to learn more about how your government operates. If nothing else, you may have some interesting stories to tell at work afterwards.

You will have to pay a big hefty fine and most likely going to jail for this. They dont care if you are a full time student.

Don't worry, they'll come calling again. Then you tell them you didn't receive the notice.
