Practice scanning patches of clover. In my experience, it's not a matter of searching each clover and counting leaflets. Instead, the brain begins to recognize that center pattern of four leaflets meeting in the middle in a balanced square instead of the usual three. A survey of other clover-finders in my acquaintance agree that it's the pattern, not the counting.

SInce 4-leaf clovers are thought to arise from damage to the plant's DNA due to UV radiation from the sun, look where there's alot of clover in a sunny area, not in the shade.

patience.... and search every square inch of the patch of clover you're looking at.
